Re: Thirdstyle
FFR used to be ran a bit differently as far as administration was concerned. The site had a money aspect to it, as well as a few other things, and there was a bit of a falling out with the staff at the time. If someone wants to explain in more detail they can, but that's the gist of it. It left a bitter taste in the mouths of a chunk of the staff at the time, and they decided to start their own project.

Re: Thirdstyle
No problem. It's probably not a sore subject for anyone that stuck around. Anyone that was really affected/bitter over it left for the most part, whether it was to go work on TS or to leave rhythm gaming

Re: Thirdstyle
Well, in the end, it looks like FFR stuck it out and has remained relatively popular over the years, whereas from my perspective TS, from a brief perspective of an outsider, doesn't seem nearly as active regarding both development and community.

Re: Thirdstyle
It boomed for a bit, and like they mentioned before it had a lot of potential with their (interestingly enough) practically commercial permissions... The functionality they decided to go with (while entertaining) was also basically a re-creation of stepmania inside the limits of using Flash/ActionScript, so it was bound to flounder unless they continued to make it really worthwhile to move to TS. The community there (in my opinion, take it for what you will) formed a tighter clique than FFR's did, and I'd argue it probably choked out a little community interaction between the two (which meant that FFR never really supported TS, and vice-versa). This didn't really cause one or the other to struggle directly, but it surely didn't help. Haha..

Seriously what is this? Edit: Stepmania is a FPS right? Been wanting to play it for a while but my graphics are horrible, i'd probably get killed in under 20 secs after spawn. Last edited by RB_Spirit; 02-11-2014 at 07:03 AM.. Reason: Cause i'm borederline retarded, and possibly gay. |

Re: Thirdstyle
For the longest time I loved Thirdstyle over FFR for various reasons. Mostly community, song variance, and gameplay. FFR just had shit I didn't like and Thirdstyle seemed to fulfill those little gaps. It was great being with the site for the time it was booming, but it seems recently that progression has hit a huge slowdown.
Who knows, might come back for a revival? Not sure, but its still a great game to play when I need a rhythm game fix.

Re: Thirdstyle
ts is objectively better than ffr but the community there fucking blows. check the forums, it's mostly inside jokes and ts memes

Re: Thirdstyle
I preferred TS when it was just an awesome pipe dream everyone on FFR shared
The reality of it kinda sucks

Re: Thirdstyle
I tried TS a while back, it just seemed like a reskinned legacy engine with even less features to me. Primitive settings, etc. I guess someone made up a quick proof of concept for an FFR replacement and then instantly abandoned it?
I dismissed it mainly because it lacks a video sync option (the audio sync setting also barely works), and no multiplayer which is the only reason I came to FFR in the first place :P
