Nah man, you just gotta suck it up. You gotta have the backbone to want this, because weight lifting is 95% discipline. You'll be fine, just don't ever get up. If something knocks you down 7 times, get up 8. You know? Trust me, it is so much more worth it than you even realize, especially once you get to the point where you see the results you want.

The same ones I told you to do, man. lots of pull ups, chins, barbell curls, deads, squats, bench, shoulder press, close grip bench press, bent over rows.

You're never going to get better at things until you practice. Always start with the basics and then go from there.

Thing is I am having trouble with the basics.

Squats are beginning to infuriate me because I am almost certain my form is still totally wrong. I can't figure out how to sit back properly without either falling on my ass or being unable to get back up, and if I don't sit back, I'm putting too much strain on the knees. Watched probably every video out there, too.

Push your knees out. I'm doing legs tomorrow, I'll try to get someone to video me.

Stick your hands out and do air squats, practicing on pushing your knees out as you go down, you want to go straight down with your ass hinging like you're sitting in a chair.

Yeah I've seen a thousand videos like that but somehow I'm not getting the motion right. I don't know if it's because I don't have enough strength to literally do the motion without falling over or because I'm just not used to moving in that way. Can't tell how much to go back vs. how much to go down, how to bend in the right places at the right time, etc. It just comes off as this awkward dip.

You don't have to go down nearly that deep if you don't want to.

I never go past parallel. If you teabag like Senip does, you'll smash your glutes and hamstrings, but it's not necessary by any means, especially for you as a beginner (if you're concerned about those muscles, they're hit very hard by incline leg press).

I feel like falling over if I go that deep. That and 4 days of sore ass. I go to parallel and keep the tension on the quads (I'm actually not convinced you even need to go to parallel to smash your quads, but alas I do anyway).

And honestly, if it's that much of a problem, I'd forget about them for now and come back to them in a couple months or something. It's not that serious. There are plenty of people that *never*, I repeat *never* squat, because they can't, that have incredible legs. It's not by any means necessary. A bodybuilder I know exclusively uses the hacksquat machine instead, actually, with great success. It's a great exercise, but if you'd rather spend your time doing something else I can't really fault you on that.

IMO it's more important you find exercises you actually enjoy doing.

I know Dorian Yates, when he was winning Olympias, used only hack squats and leg press. But he built his base on squats. I think squats are super important, honestly, even for new people.
