Default Key Setup

Obviously I'm behind on my FFR whoring. I wanted to be at least at 100 plays today, I'm at just under 70. Part of the reason being the key I use for right arrows broke yesterday D:!

I normally use:

Left Arrow, Down arrow, num8, num6.

But now I need to get used to a new config D:!
And so I ask, what do you all use?

QWOP is breaking on my keyboard so I had to switch to ERUI. heaven help me if that breaks, since it's the perfect arms length away from me.

I use ASKL because... actually I don't know why. I just always have.

Actually, I use my pointer on num8 and my middle on num6.. Which probably explains why I broke it. The middle being the longer finger was always kind of awkward now that I think about it, and resulted in some hard core smashing at times.

I can definitely see what you're saying though.
Space is good. However I obviously can't use num4 and num2 for left and down now, as where the hell would my right hand go. Also, just out of curiosity, do you play onehanded? 2468 seems a little tight for two hands in some spot.

Recently my fingers have been falling off the keys though and completely missing.. So maybe I should try some bigger keys? ctrl for up, shift for right, left shift for left and left alt for down..

That would be interesting. It might compensate for speed because it is a bigger button but at the same time I can stop worrying about missing.

And surely that's a lot more space than I have before.
Thanks !

Edit: And also thank you to the rest of you !
I've tried using all keys on one parallel plane before and it never seems to work out for me ):. I need to have them staggered.

I use as86, but when those are acting up I switch to zx53 since it is the same setup just shifted down a row.

(the #s are on the numpad like you use)

When playing split, I use my left middle finger, and my right index, middle and ring finger (just like the right hand of most 6-key solo players).
This means that my left index finger (spread) and my right index finger (split) are common fingers, allowing me to switch styles instantly and without any effort, when I see a pattern that I can't do with one style. My left middle finger, and my right middle and ring fingers don't need to change.

I found this very interesting. How you can just change instantly like that. Wow. That must have taken some getting used to. I can't even adjust to a new setup none the less play two styles at once.

On another note, I'm totally screwed..

Me trying to adjust to a new setup O_o". That's embarrassing.
I've realized that my brain doesn't think left down up right like most peoples do.

My brain thinks that the key furthest away from me will always be up, the key closest to me will always be down (unless two keys are on the same plane, then it's the one to the right), the second furthest away key will always be right, and the second closest key will always be left.

So when I try to play askl or ax num4 num8 I start completely screwing up and pressing the wrong keys.

On the other hand, ax num4 num8 is so much more freaking comfortable than what I was playing before, because I play with pointer and middle on both hands.

I have some practicing to do.

Wow, zx53 is pretty much perfect. But.. After trying ax48 and finally not having that strain to keep my middle finger curled up like that.. I think it's something I want to eventually get used to. I'll probably play zx53 until the end of the tournament though. I feel stupid I didn't recognize that. Thanks for pointing that out.

qslp or wdko
It helps a lot with fast stream, jacks, and trills because the hands are angled naturally so it's a lot more comfortable

Definitely more comfortable, although I still find ax48 slightly more comfortable than that (Number pad of course) even though it seems like the same thing, it feels slightly different.

Unfortunately, when trying to play like that I keep derping and I got the score as shown above Dx.

Even with zx53 I'm getting slightly derpier scores.
Oh well. Practice makes perfect.

Thanks for all the help guys !

Wow.. Somethings wrong with my keyboard.. I have it set to ax48.. It's counting 4 as the left arrow? I think I screwed up my keyboard a little more than I originally thought?

I am probably one of the only users to use ZX86 or other variants like this. I'm currently using AS75 now since my key caps are breaking hahaha.
