Question about Song Rate
Hello out there everyone on FFR. I wanted to inquire why the scores do not save to the servers on here if one decides to change the song rate. I think it is quite unfair as I am wanting to play much harder songs that are 30+ but I find it impossible or nearly impossible to play these more advanced if the song rate is left on 1.0. No, I am not referring to the scroll speed but the song rate which is located at the bottom of the song options menu inside settings menu using the R3 Beta Engine. Is there a reason why if this rate is changed that my score does not count? May I ask why is considered cheating then? I would like to understand because the rate of 1.0 is too much in order to be able even have a chance at playing those more advanced songs. If I can change the scroll speed and not be penalized why then do you offer the choice to change the song rate then?

Re: Question about Song Rate
Because song rates below 1.0 make the song easier, whereas scroll speed changes do not.

Re: Question about Song Rate
That was a glitch and all afflicted scores were removed.
That being said, I believe scores for rates above 1.0 are still counted.

Re: Question about Song Rate
Score saving is disabled on rates because no leaderboards exist yet for rated scores. However, rates still award grandtotal, credits, and games played.

Re: Question about Song Rate
To clarify exactly the reasoning: you are free to play difficult songs on slower rates than 1.0 (and in fact doing so can be a good way to improve at the game), but if you do your score is no longer being counted against everyone else's because you are no longer playing the same thing as everyone else.

Re: Question about Song Rate
If slower rates did record and count, I'd be interested in how low people would put the rate for the sake of being able to AAA a file. FFR would become a game of patience rather than a game of skill at that point. I'd like to see some The Games We Played Full Edition 0.1x scores -w-

Re: Question about Song Rate
It's considered cheating because it significantly makes the song easier lol

Re: Question about Song Rate
sometimes. As someone who plays on rates a lot I can confirm that these things only record a fraction of the time.
@OP: Rate scores do not count for the same reason you can't win the Indy 500 going 65 MPH. Easier songs exist in the game for less skilled players, the leaderboards on the higher difficulty songs are somewhat sacred in the fact that achieving notable scores on them is difficult to do. If it weren't this way, everyone would go 0.3x AAA RATO (an otherwise [seemingly] impossible song to AAA) today.

Re: Question about Song Rate

Re: Question about Song Rate
Hey I'd take rates on the leaderboard, but I think they'd have to make standard rates you can use, like 1.1x, 1.2x etc.. I don't think they'd be able to do like, a leaderboard for a very specific rate, since you could theoretically set your rate to like 1.0638385 or something dumb..
I just need to find a way to increase rate on Flash Player 9 |

Re: Question about Song Rate
Ok, I understand now guys. Thank you for clarifying as well as answering my question. I guess one workaround I could do is to decrease the scroll speed on a harder song then to see if it helps make it easier to read the notes on those songs that are rated at 30 and above.

Re: Question about Song Rate
if they could somehow implement rate difficulty scaling so that it could be ranked and rates could effect your skill rating it would fix the problem of when your good at the game you have nothing to play. i do understand though that that would be very difficult and the diffs for each rate would probably have to be manually assigned due to different songs scaling differently on rates. still would be cool though, even though it will never happen

Re: Question about Song Rate
Quote:
Correct me if im wrong but I don't think theres some sort of formula rating songs atm, I think OSU has a formula system that rates their songs, but I always thought FFR is arbitrary to some extent (hence the song rating corrections threads). If there was some sort of algorithm to determine difficulty, I'm sure rate could work with it, since rate would just be increasing the speed/BPM, it'd be the same patterns, but yeah ur right, certain patterns and such could be harder at higher bpm (a 180bpm stream -> 240bpm stream is probably less of a difficulty spike than 180bpm jumpstream -> 240bpm).. I still feel it could probably be formulated, must be difficult to do though (I saw mina on stream working on something to analyze jacks, and he was explaining the issues it would have with jacks close together, sub groups of jacks etc, it would definitely be a huge under-taking. |

Re: Question about Song Rate
yes the ratings are manual currently, adding manual ratings for all songs on multiple rates would take a long ass time
