Gaming nerdery question/challenge
It occurred to me a while ago that explaining the word "expressivemanias" to a normal person who has no knowledge of rhythm games, in way that they can understand, that gives them full contextual understanding of the word is probably one of the most difficult deep-in-rabbit-hole nerd things I know of.
By "full contextual understanding" I mean this: "it's when you hit song notes to colorful arrows to match feelings" is sufficiently simplified, in that we as rhythm gamers know what the person means by it and a regular person thinks they do, but they do not have full context whatsoever because they don't know what we mean by half of these things or the social divides that have happened over notechart styles. Explaining the word involves explaining a whole subculture. In a way, it's like explaining "top kek", but even harder than that. Can anyone think of a more difficult nerd jargon along the lines of how "expressivemanias" is difficult? |

ZaRtist. For worms armageddon. "`Zooka and Rope Artist" means being incredibly fluent with the difficult movement required to never make mistakes, ninja roping around the terrain effectively in a short time span and taking into account the wind, then firing a bazooka from your swinging rope at the opponent. In another sense it means someone with mastery of the physics engine as a whole, and consistent makes the difference there.

Re: Gaming nerdery question/challenge
This one can be so frustrating to explain to somebody.
'It stands for Tool-Assisted Speedrun' 'Oh so a computer plays the game for you?' 'No I played the game one frame at a time and the computer plays it back.' 'Oh so you cheated?' 'In a sense yeah, but I didn't add anything to the game that wasn't already there so everything that I did could theoretically be done by someone in real time.' 'Why didn't you do it in real time then?' That's about when I get too frustrated to keep explaining it to them and I link the SM64 0 Star TAS. |

Re: Gaming nerdery question/challenge
especially some of the earlier ones because you can read shit like the htcpcp (the reason why we have webcams, btw) or the TELNET RANDOMLY LOSE rfcs
but then you have rfcs which are so unabashedly technical where even people who have been in the industry for years and years kinda scratch their head and go "huh?" https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc1437 Last edited by contrapatior; 02-16-2017 at 05:36 PM.. |

Obviously, a real politician's skull is more complex than pure iron,
as is its interior, but this simplified example should give the general flavor of the protocol. (people should read these) |
