Dynam0, it's possible that the older the cat gets the more pain it'll have from the declawing. The problem with cats is that their instinct is to hide pain because they don't want to appear weak to predators. If your cat is hurting, you'll never know it.

It's probably more of a problem for their morale then their physical health. So the younger they are the less likely they would be as bothered by it.

We didn't declaw any of our 3 cats. It's not to hard to discipline them to only scratch certain things.

And it's been my experience that declawed cats are also a lot more bitey.

Train your cat to poo in the toilet. That's what my parents did with ours...

I don't understand how a surgery to declaw a cat will affect in any big way unless it's roaming around outside. Are there studies showing that the cat will be in pain when declawed? People get ingrown nails removed as adults without forever living in pain. I just wonder how much the animal itself actually cares that it doesn't have claws.
I suppose it's reason enough to not want to mutilate your pet, but I rather think of the idea of even owning a pet cat is more cruel than the idea of declawing it.

My friend's old declawed cat used their un-declawed hind claws to scratch people when it wanted to.

Yeah i heard declawing actually causes a lot of pain after the sugery is done. I wouldnt wanna put any cat through that. if its already declawed itd honestly be a bonus, but i asked and shes not, so i think im gunna have to buy some plastic couch covers for the furniture, which i dont mind at all.

so as for supplied, that cat is litterbox trained, ill need a scratching post, a toy,a dn a collar hopefully itll like it because i bought a really pretty one <3 food and water bowls... dollarama pretty ,much has everything right down to the litter. i guess its just the food then..

Declawing a cat maps onto humans as chopping all your fingers off at the top knuckle. It is not like removing your fingernails.

As far as academic journals go, this is about a 50:50 issue. The same is the case with cats having phantom pains when they get older, though there really isn't any way to tell if the cat is experiencing minor pain anyway.

I suppose the last resort should be declawing if you're having trouble training the cat. I wouldn't have the claw/no claw issue prevent me from keeping a cat though. I agree with Cavernio, the fact that you're confining an animal in a house is more cruel than removing it's fingertips imo

Good luck zelda ^_^
