I never been into Star Trek and my friends who saw it say it's over 3 hours long, is it still recommendable?
(because the trailer did catch my attention)

It's 2hours and 6 minutes, and yes I recommend you see it still. I think it would still be good to see even if the person watching has never seen Star Trek before.

edit: There is, however, some comedy that might be missed if you haven't seen the original star trek series or movies before.

Ya. I went and saw the movie last night. It was long, but it was so worth it. The comedy isn't that hard to understand if you haven't seen the others, I have watched some of the older Star Treks, but not a whole lot and I still fully understood. It really was amazing. And the actors did a great job portraying their characters. I would recommend it to anyone!

I have never seen star trek and I loved the movie. Which makes sense since they are trying to appeal to the masses instead of star trek fans by making it take place out of timeline.

Yeah, I was never a fan of the series, movies, or conventions. However, this movie is excellent. As a Star Wars fan this movie gets my approval.
