Re: I need some truly hard games to beat
I'm very familiar with speed demos archives. I've been speed running for quite a while actually. I have world class runs on Melee's break the targets, super mario bros 2, punch-out!!, super punch-out, kirbys adventure, and have been off and on playing Zelda a link to the past for a world record which is barely 8 minutes away from it. Speed running is just perfecting a game which can get very boring after all the repetition. Maybe I should go for a donkey kong kill screen lol.

Re: I need some truly hard games to beat
My video game superiority lies with my using a controller. IWBTG is perhaps the hardest flash game ever made but without a controller, but I'm not going to bother.

Re: I need some truly hard games to beat
SNES: Shiren the Wanderer Mysterious Dungeon 2 (or alternatively for the DS)
It's a nethack inspired roguelike. If that doesn't set off warning sirens, the last secret dungeon has 99 floors, and you're not allowed to take any levels or items/equipment into it, and almost nothing starts identified. It's not 'action' hard, though, it's 'thinking' hard. You could also try the mattmakesgames.com games; Jumper 2/Redux/3, Flail, Moneyseize, An Untitled Story on Masterful or Insanity

Re: I need some truly hard games to beat
^ not really that hard btw
My suggestions: Sonic Spinball (seconding Tass) Revenge of Shinobi (Genesis) Taz-Mania (Genesis) (god-awful and exceedingly hard) Pokemon Puzzle League (N64) (S-Hard difficulty without continues is very rough, the CPU opponents move so fast that the only way to win is if they run out of possible moves) |

Re: I need some truly hard games to beat
Sure. If that's what you got from it.
I watched my friend beat S. Spinball and it didn't look like my type of game. I think I'm gonna try ninja gaiden for the nes I heard it was very hard. Puzzle games are respectably hard in their own way but are not my type of game. I haven't heard of a lot of these games keep up the suggestions none will be overlooked I can assure you. |

Yes, the ninja gaiden series are very tough. In 1 in particular you can get juggled pretty badly IIRC

Re: I need some truly hard games to beat
Just to correct.... IWBTG isn't a flash game. It's a downloadable. Same with all of mattmakesgames' games, except MoneySeize which is Flash. Granted... Matt's games are extremely difficult and creative platformers.
Another excellently hard Flash platformer is Meat Boy (Map Pack). The original Meat Boy is not that hard... the map pack, with all levels created by the fans, is evil. Some other devilishly hard Flash achievements are: all 18 awards on ZunderFury, beating Battle Mode of Max Mesiria 2, getting over 100,000 on Tarnation (all 3 of them are Impossible Badges on Kong... the 3 hardest, imo. 1010 coins on MoneySeize is #4, Meat Boy (Map Pack) is #5). As far as Sonic Spinball... it's not really that fun of a game. It was just brutally frustrating trying to play pinball on a frickin' console. It completely defeats the purpose, kills the control you have over the ball, etc. You need framer perfect timing on many hits, so you're constantly trying to set up and set up and set up just for that next chance to get the perfect shot. Over and over and over again.

Re: I need some truly hard games to beat
Tis all child's play, son.
You want a real challenge? Doom 3 Nightmare mode without dying ONCE. I just did it today.

Re: I need some truly hard games to beat
Ghosts n' goblins, DD sacred stones and battletoads battlemaniacs are games beaten by so very very few without cheating or save states. To be able to beat them honestly automatically makes you a VG legend in my book.
If you beat doom 3 on nightmare you did it by rushing through levels that you have memorized. I used to be able to do that for doom 2 when I played it religiously and doom 2 is definitely harder than 3. So... your challenge tis mere childs play son. EDIT: Tass, I've always said I would love more than anything to be able to play IWBTG on a snes controller, but I absolutely require one to be at full potential. Re: I need some truly hard games to beat
Have you tried Spelunky, btw? It's the roguelike of platformers.

Re: I need some truly hard games to beat
Blast Corps is an amazing game. You should play it, regardless. Yes, getting all 57 platinums is really hard, but whether or not it's in the caliber of the GnG, Battletoads, etc... probably below.

Re: I need some truly hard games to beat
Getting to ganon and beating him. Yeah 8 minutes is a big chunk of time but that's because I made way too many minor mistakes that added up. My time currently stands at 1:37:51. Played again I could easily knock down 2 minutes and with a little luck a possible WR.
