if that was more "this is the core of what you learn" instead, assembly and operating systems for a pure CS degree sounds weird. granted, I'm kinda talking out of my ass here, but idk. (also, glad to hear you're doing well and enjoying it dude!) |

Both are pretty standard assuming assembly is introduced in the context of computer architecture in general.

People still go to school?
I thought you guys all got degrees in youtube and reddit. Fucking degree is the most expensive piece of paper you'll ever buy. Next to a life time of toilet paper, or wet wipes for you sophisticated folk. -Bman07 |

Re: which nerds are still in school
Honestly I really miss school. I want to go back to study medicine and cognitive neuroscience and hopefully one day help research new medicines. I graduated in 2013 in Graphic Design (Hi GundamDood) but I find my life is pretty hollow just doing what I believe is my hobby, first and last. I can do it for a living, but it poses no real challenge to me, and it can get really dry. I need stimulation.

(I mean obviously it matters if you care about compounding interest and shit like that but let's be real, that's not really what most of us are gettin into, I assume at least)

- You get to learn about user stories, AGILE methodologies in software development, technical documentation, and practice all of these with a team. The down side: - Free labor and you get no compensation for all your hard work. You can probably tell I'm glad to no longer be a student, haha.

The client project likely won't be covered until next semester, too; 3352 has two strands, us Software Engineering students, and Computer Engineering students. Next semester, in (I think) 3351 it's just software engineering, and that's where the bulk of the client project takes place. As such, the prof doesn't really want to cater significant time to only half of the class as of now. For us, the top three teams of 5 get $5000 per team. So it's not that bad!

i'm 27 and this is my 2nd year in university. I spent 8 years wasting my time in a field I didn't like. Never too late my dudes.

in summer 2019 I'm doing a community outreach project class (developing software for a non-profit) and it's "free labor" but at least it's for a charitable cause so it counts as a course credit, volunteer work, and work experience all in one. how triggered r u dossar im doin free work

Re: which nerds are still in school
Not at all, you voluntarily decided to do that and it seems to be working out well for you. I actually lose money myself being a GM on this site (keeping my site up).
It was more of a general statement for courses that require a project and then the university has full access to your work. As a student, you're both losing money (tuition costs and all that stuff) and doing free labor. In a job, you're earning. What is also important to consider is that I'm from the U.S. so Canada might be a bit different with respect to university cost.
