Re: can we get an interview thread
One of my masters courses involves establishing a recruitment/screening/selection plan for a local business, including what questions will be asked/any tests given during the interviewing process and corresponding evaluation frameworks...noticed that a ton of businesses around here have the propensity to lean towards behavioural based interviewing, which I personally can't stand because some of these questions aren't applicable to any prior positions a candidate has worked in, and your best bet is to provide the most relevant example possible (which sometimes isn't relevant whatsoever pending on specificity within the question) or create some fictitious example on the spot (which won't end well for a majority of people). It blows because you can't ever say 'I've never encountered something like that before', even if you truly haven't and would otherwise have been an excellent candidate for the job. Relevant work experience is a large factor in determining whether or not a candidate has the knowledge and skills required to perform the job duties in question, but interviews structured solely around these types of questions almost completely negate all other factors that should be considered.

Congrats choof![size=1] Mind spreading some of that luck my way?[\size]
@OWA: that would explain why 19 year old me got a job right off the bat. Still dosen't excuse the crappy interviews I've had. On a general note, why is it that so much advice pertaining to interviews is so contradictory? |

Re: can we get an interview thread
So I got a phone call yesterday from Hilo Fish Place ("a leading importer and processor of fresh and frozen seafood in the United States"). They said they stumbled across my resume/application I had given them at some random internship/career fair at my university several months ago so I have an interview with them today in about two hours. Not sure what position they are looking for exactly; at the internship/career fair, they were looking for people to do some database management stuff but I don't know about now.
I currently work at the uni doing math tutoring. But I have very few hours there (due to budget cuts this semester). However, I think perhaps trying something in the CS field might be a good experience for me Wish me luck~ |

You've got this. Even if it's a database position, penguins are all about anything having to do with fish. |

Re: can we get an interview thread
You'd probably do great in Japan. They are big on modesty instead of acting extremely confident.

Hmm...is it one of those negatives you can turn into a positive at an interview? |
