1) Remove the old versions from the game menus
2) Make them playable via another link entirely that just loads the normal client but with only the old songs in the song list 3) Make new versions of all of them, not garbage, put those in the game normally |

Then put them where they belong, in a museum.

I say no. If the older players had to endure them so shouldnt the newer players. They really arent all that bad.. Just play them with sound off. Just suck it up. I mean technically you dont HAVE to play them haha.

The argument of "older players had to do it, so we should make the newer people" is just basic fucking stupidity. The older simfile artists had to make files in fucking notepad, and we clearly don't do it that way anymore. We didn't tell Velocity to not fuck with the engine because it was the way the game used to be. We didn't leave the av-miss glitch in just because older players had to endure it. Get rid of them already, and please take tier points with them, for fuck's sake. Also update the anti-pa requirements from skill tokens, because they're 100% counter intuitive to the game from the start, thank you. Fuck the idea of leaving files like these in game. If you're gonna promote the ffrmania engine, move the crappy files there along with all the improper converts. PS: I am not saying FFRMania is a bad idea. I'm just saying that straight converting files doesn't give you the intended expiriance. It's not meant as an insult. Last edited by XelNya; 01-28-2018 at 08:10 AM.. |

Because in this case people are hiding behind the guise of history to halt the progress and quality of the present and future of the game. Every time I've heard this crap for years, the opposition will even admit they are terrible and the grind sucks, yet are selfish enough to beg to bog the game down and keep the cycle because "they had to do it".

i had played these and i don't really care if they stay or go. It'd be best to have a middle option of just making them unranked eh?

Just want to remind that Max is looking into filtering the legacy genre.
Quote:
Another perspective to consider is the following about true legacy: - One perfect window (there are 3 now) - No speedmods (you can specify custom speed mods now) - Misaligned receptors - Average-miss issue (this was fixed in 2008 by Xelius) These improvements made the game a lot more playable. Legacy files still preserve what used to be in the game in the beginning, but belong in a different category separate from modern charts.

also, well played. ----- Seeing a few extreme opinions in here. Do not unrank the legacy files and definitely do not remove legacy files. Restepping? Ok maybe, but that would be a huge project. Simply make them less accessible to new players and let them be warned that Legacy files are often poorly stepped and are not up to the current standards of the game, so if they wish to pursue scores on them, it is of their own choosing. Not playing them does not hurt their FFR Rank, and anyone who actually cares about that will probably end up playing them later on down the line anyway. Here we go again... anti-pa requires skill, period, and is a refreshing change from Pass this FC that AAA the other thing. Separate categorization for these would be nice tho.

I thought they already don't count for rank?

They don't count toward Average Rank though.

Re: Isn't it time we said goodbye to the non tool-assisted files?
If you're at a point where you want to play these for nostalgia (which is their only purpose to remain) you probably know that the ffrmania engine exists, which is why it's a good solution and it prevents future issues.
I don't hate history, I just think in this case, it's irrelevant especially given that there's video of them existing, or if you moved them offsite, the same goal can be obtained. As long as I decide to keep coming to this site I will always advocate for their removal, along with tier points. Not a single person could sate me on the argument that they're counter-intuitive. |

I remember the last time we had a discussion about these files, like 3-4 years ago.
Nothings changed wowzers
