Default Argument for Rates >X1.0

So, I've been thinking about Rates for a little while now, and I think it's time to revisit the idea of counting scores for Rates >X1.0 for the leaderboards.

This video is prompting my post specifically -
https://youtu.be/itDZcCxMaW4

Especially with over 2,000 songs in this game, I think it would make it more enjoyable for a new player to explore more of the game. While rate leaderboards probably aren't feasible to implement, I think allowing Rates >X1.0 to record scores would be a more enjoyable experience for more players.

There were previous discussions about whether songs would be easier to get a better score on with the change, like MAYBE skeletor. I don't personnally believe it would make any chart easier in technical ability.

Anyways, I just wanted to bring the topic back up for discussion.

I think the idea you're bringing up is good but i think it would mess with average rank or any other of the sub leaderboards.

I think the suggestion is to just allow the score to record normally. It wouldn't change things like average rank because a AAA on 1.1 wouldn't get given a higher score than a AAA on 1.0

But wouldn't that make getting average rank on the easy files way to fast and cheap? Like idk it would be cool to have rate scores submit but i think it would cause too many side effects.

It would just eliminate the drudgery of going back and aaa’ing songs <50 ish difficulty. So, yes, more people would be motivated to climb the avg rank rank leaderboards. However, I think this would be a good thing for the game.

If there are other side effects, I really would like to bring them to light.
Otherwise, I don't see a downside in making about half the game more enjoyable for other players.

We didn't buy the "well we had to AAA legacy files" argument back in the day before those were removed from ranks.

If rate leaderboards become a thing, they will be separate from 1x leaderboard.

You could probably imagine my sadness when I found out that rates above 1.0 actually don't get recorded as score.

Part of the challenge of avg rank is to grind through it. It'd be like getting pianocore on 2x. That's just not the point.

i doubt many people got pianocore by legitimately playing every and each song fully they only need to hit one arrow then die and move on to the next song iirc

it's a yes from me on higher rates leaderboards, moreover i would enjoy seeing the highest rated AAA ontop of the leaderboards instead of first person to AAA

I don't see the coding of the site realistically working with changes to the leaderboards themselves, but recording scores over X1 rate is more realistic.

Letting the score save = entirely doable
Having separate rate leaderboards = fraught with too many issues
Having rates give you a better/different rank than the same score on 1.0 = see above

This is a valid argument. However, I think that anything that can be changed about the game which would result in more players engaging with and enjoying the easier half of the game would be a good thing (FFR could use more players!)

IMO, I would spend much more time with the game if rated scores >1.0 were recorded, and I'm sure many others would as well.

Take that with a grain of salt though since I am biased; I don't attribute much significance to the average rank leaderboard. If I had dedicated boat-loads of time to grind average rank rank, then I might have a different opinion on the matter. However, I don't think that that is a good enough reason to make the mods hesitate to make any changes that could boost overall player engagement.
