Re: Subside Voting
I played all of the files once, so there won't be any bias there.
Subside 1 First one started out rough and a little slow. Might be due to the file itself. PR was questionable at certain points. I had alot of fun playing this though, very colorful chart and definitely has a nice ending. Was really feeling it. Subside 2 Interesting you decided not to step the intro. I actually quite like it. It builds up the next section. I also like the usage of jumps here and I also really like the usage of hands early on for emphasis, especially since this part is so slow. However towards the middle I found the use of quads a bit excessive. and the patterns towards the ending were a bit rough to me. Overall enjoyable, but definitely spikes hard towards the ending in terms of difficulty. Subside 3 ` I found your jump usage a bit excessive, I feel when you emphasise everything you essentially emphasise nothing, the 24th minijacks also felt unneeded. Overall the file felt overstepped and a bit dumpy as a result. As a conclusion I think file 1 and 2 combined would have been the perfect way to tackle this one, my vote goes to 1, but it's really close with 2. |

Re: Subside Voting
1
Don't have much to say for this one. Has a few musical relevance/layering issues, nothing too major. It's good, but not great. 2 (maybe n00b? There's a few of these charters that I don't know well enough so I can't confidently guess) Probably the best chart in the entire contest. Really, really good layering. I highly appreciated the emphasis on column specific jacks, especially in the last part of the chart. 3 Really surprised there isn't a single vote for this one. Suppose this place is just not the right crowd for it. Though it also suffers from a few musical relevance/layering issues, more than 1 has in fact, I think the execution of the idea here is quite good. There's some sounds that could probably have been dumped more accurately, but overall it was well done. I really, really need to emphasize just how good the breakdown in the middle of the song feels to play, jfc. I hope whoever charted this finds more similar music and improves their craft, there's a lot of potential here. I'm a bit of a sucker for dumps of this kind of music, but personal bias aside 2 is the better chart. |

Re: Subside Voting
Subside 1 - I think this one is great. Only thing that I can moderately complain about, is a breakdown in 1 particular section that I can't really scream at specifically because I don't have the file in question and timecodes like judges do. And even then, is a bit of a nitpick. Solid effort, structured well. No complaints.
Subside 2 - Jesus christ. The column coloring in the final half made me go 'woah'. There's a lot of experimental coloring and patterning in this chart, that dwarfs most files both inside this bracket and outside of it against other song judgments in general. While I think I noticed a small amount of missing notes right in the beginning of the file, but including that, this file right here is probably the most fun file I've played in the tournament thus far (after going through 'Find a Way Out', 'Ricochet', and 'Swamp Thing' submissions). Going to be very hard to top this. Subside 3 - My thought's exact on what M0nkeyz has already stated. There's a lot of over-layering happening on wub's for dubstep portions, and the minijacks don't seem like a necessity for the structure that's being provided by the song. Still a nice chart to play though. Vote's on 2. Last edited by gold stinger; 02-26-2020 at 03:29 PM.. |

Re: Subside Voting
Subside 1 — Out of the three submissions, this one feels the most structurally sound; it has a solid representation and each section feels like there’s a cohesive progression to it. Rhythms are mostly correct and the layering fits nicely. It also manages to cut into the issue of repetition by chopping a small but non-trivial piece of the introduction out. It just -feels- right to me.
Subside 2 — A very close second for me. The chart’s presentation is pretty good here and the pitch relevance/layering appear to be well done, particularly in the verses/introduction. However, in terms of playability, I feel like it’s slightly less fluent than Subside 1 is as a whole. The bridge between the first drop and the second buildup feels a touch clunkier to me. Subside 3 — Wow, what an approach. This is an interesting concept as a whole and this plays pretty enjoyably for what I would call a technical dump. The unfortunate part about this submission is that it takes great liberties to play with subjective representation but doesn’t do enough with it; there’s a lot of pattern redundancy in situations where you would have musical direction to mix things up. On top of it, there are some very nasty bursts that require some extreme control that aren’t the most fun to play. |
