Re: Artists Like ___/Where Do I Start? Thread
Are you sure you're listening to real screamo (i.e. the bands that were mentioned earlier in this thread?)
Screamo and emo are two very confused genres. Screamo is often confused for post-hardcore, such as Underoath, The Used, Alexisonfire, Alesana, Senses Fail, Escape the Fate, Silverstein, and blessthefall. As evidence how "confused" this genre is, I took every one of those artists from the "Top Artists" for the screamo tag on last.fm. However, the Wiki for the screamo tag is very accurate. http://www.last.fm/tag/screamo/wiki As for emo, the "Top Artists" are all just pop-rock (Taking Back Sunday, My Chemical Romance, etc.) but the Wiki page is also accurate. http://www.last.fm/tag/emo/wiki The easy way for me to explain emo and screamo is that they are PUNK ROCK. By punk rock standards, if you have a recording contract with Sony, have albums on shelves at Best Buy, and most of the venues you play at have stages, you're not a punk rock band. That can be said for screamo and emo, since they are sub-genres of punk. I think it's also safe to say that most real emo music has simply evolved into math-rock, and is often just confused for indie. PS sup Starshot hang out with my sister lately? |

I guess people call it dubstep, but I find it just ambient. I really think you'd enjoy it. You MIGHT like "Liquid Stranger - We Meet at Last" as well.

OH HOLY **** AHAHAHAHAHAH
Alden, it's been far too long. No, I haven't, as she's been down in Corpus Christi and I've rarely spoken with her in a couple of years. Hit me up sometime, we need to catch up. |

I love dub-step, and listening to this song really got me into it a while back. Few personal favorites from this week: Tek-One: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDpCQ437bsE JFB: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXdVnDVjSL8 (This one is someone scratching over dubstep beats, sounds ****ING ORGASMIC) Amtrak: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4WCGBshmFA And anything Borgore or Skrillex (I'm really digging his sound) is good. |

I consider this song as the musical definition of "drop".
Edit: Joining the dubstep bandwagon, Roksonix did a good job remixing Imogen Heap's "Hide and Seek" (MMMMMMMMMMMMMM, WHATCHA SAAAAAY), you guys who like Dubstep should check it out. Edit II: No love for The Others? Last edited by Shikari; 11-11-2010 at 02:32 PM.. |

Takanka runs the boarder between hardstyle and jumpstyle far too much for my taste. Don't get me wrong, I like tunes that mix the genres (IE: Scooter's "See You Smile,") but I just don't like the stuff he does. I don't like how the Beholder or DJ Zany mix their drums. Too much kick, not enough tone. If I want raw kick, I'd listen to gabber (which I do on a regular basis, mind you) |

Re: Artists Like ___/Where Do I Start? Thread
Speaking of Hieroglyphics, anybody know any good rappers that tend to favor smooth jazzy beats like they do? The Mushroom Jazz mixes by Mark Farina come to mind, I remember Chali 2na being on one of the tracks in one of the albums.
