You are obviously one of those people worried about technicality.
I might be a tad bit biased because I'm in the special effects field, but I still loved the imagination brought into this movie.

technicality what do you mean by that
i'm pretty sure the 'technical' perspective holds that this movie has a lot of very sophisticated, expensive-looking computer effects and is headsplittingly edited. someone who DOESN'T care about technicality though might simply find it brash and exploitative and providing rather little insight or food-for-thought

still, i'm not a big gamer and i guess i can understand the appeal for those who are (tho i did, as someone else pointed out, enjoy scott pilgrim pretty well)

My definition of "technical" is being proper in the traditional aspect of film and storytelling. This movie is by no means deep, like I said, it's sort of a sandbox type movie, with a bit of an anime feel to it of sorts.

yea...I know. Though I did watch Rango when it first came out on DVD quality. Dunno how that's possible..

Anyway, like I said. I'm not in it for the special effects. I like good plot and straightforward action/comedy. Martial arts, stand up, things that don't need constant effects. I still think Scott Pilgrim was better, and the movie is pretty boring. It's all opinion, and if this topic said "What do you think of movies with special effects?" then I wouldn't have answered. But because it sounded like Scot Pilggrim (video game description) I thought I'd check it out. I don't mind seeing something low quality. I eventualy watch it again on DVD if I liked it.

I feel a little let down, story wise it was interesting, the fightscenes were kickass and the chicks were hot as shit. automatic 10/10 for guy film

But overall it wasn't what i expected, the story was a bit much and plot didn't really do it for me, but like i said, guns/kicks/explosions/boobs worth seeing in IMAX.

$14/person in Eugene, Oregon where I saw it, so $28 total was what I spent.

Saw it a few days ago, and thought it was amazing. Didn't care much for the story but the action and visuals were amazing which is all I went in caring about, Because of that i was completely impressed. Not to mention the soundtrack to this movie is god damn amazing.

The problem I had with this is that yeah, all that stuff was cool, but saying "IF YOURE A GAMER YOULL LIKE IT" doesnt quite fit. A lot of gamers (like myself) enjoy a decent plot.

Which this didnt have. So I was going "holy shit steampunk nazi zombies fighting mecha, I hope a director sees this and figures out a way to tie all this together in a way that makes sense."

It was like "Man I know guys are going to have trouble getting through the non-awesome parts so I guess I'll do some crappy story where girls dance around in revealing clothes and try to mindscrew it all while I'm at it."

Dancing the night away though, amirite guys?
