Re: Vegeta Kills Cell, Alt-Ending
they did that for Broly and it made way more sense
I found the Cell ending to be the most difficult shit to believe, even by DB standards, since it was Gohan one-handing it with the telepathic help from Goku out of nowhere. The idea that Vegeta would get the energy to kill Cell from the death of his own son is both * poetic, since it's the first time he would have done something to avenge another person like this * appropriate, since rage-via-another-person's-death is also how Goku achieved super saiyan form in the Frieza saga |

Re: Vegeta Kills Cell, Alt-Ending
and I try to pretend that the Buu saga doesn't even exist since it has a guy with MC Hammer pants turning SSJ Vegito into a chocolate ball
(who in chocolate form proceeds to beat Buu anyway) |

but...but...spamming ki blasts never works
I agree though, this is better. I never liked that when the villain reached its final form the whole Z squad had to rely on whoever happened to be its strongest character (whether Goku or Gohan) and no one else could even hope to kill him. This would have also actually caused a consequence for a villain killing a main character (which barely ever actually happens)

Re: Vegeta Kills Cell, Alt-Ending
Hell to the no. I hear what you're saying arch, but vegeta proving himself by his sacrificing in the majin buu saga was far more epic and emotional. The build up of his stubbornness to that point was necessary IMO. That was teen gohans moment. Vegeta had his moment in the form of sacrifice in vain, because as we all know majin buu still comes back but shows how selfless vegeta was FINALLY capable of being, even with things not turning out as he had hoped. That was really cool though.
EDIT: and I recall the telepathy not being from nowhere, but through king Kai as a conduit. Akira toriyama was on his shit. Last edited by korny; 08-27-2013 at 12:16 PM.. |

Re: Vegeta Kills Cell, Alt-Ending
I would have rather seen Vegeta assist Gohan in a father-like manner, encouraging him like Goku did, telling him not to fail, not only for him or the Earthlings, but so he doesn't not disappoint Kakarot, that father love and stuff is even more powerful than the Saiyan pride and that he understood that from losing Trunks just now and they'd defeat Cell together ending with some Vegeta reflecting over Goku's true intentions etc.
A bit of what he did with goku vs kid Buu (holding Buu back while Goku prepared the Spirit Bomb), what he did with Gohan (fire at Cell to give Gohan an opening during father-son kamehameha), and what Goku did with Gohan during the Father-Son Kamehameha. It would have kicked ass that way. Gohan and Vegeta fighting Cell hand in hand, recognizing him as a true saiyan and acknowledging the value of the Earth saiyans etc. And make the Buu saga not exist anymore.

Re: Vegeta Kills Cell, Alt-Ending
We are talking about vegeta though. He is a ridiculously intense guy. It would have been NiCE if vegeta could have made such a realization, but him atoning for his sins through his sacrifice in the buu saga was like I said, completely necessary and tear jerking. The conversation between him and piccolo before he self destructed was a testament to the man vegeta finally was able to become. I loved the introduction of the ultimate universal adversary in the form of buu, the unresolved conflict between vegeta proving his strength to goku ( only to learn goku could've gone ss3 at any time but whatever), the introduction to the universal guardians aka the supreme Kai's. I ate that shit up as a kid and hold in high esteem to this day. It was like dammmmnnn now shit is finally getting as real as it can possibly get. Then they made GT which was canon and complete shit I could care less about super saiyan 4.
