Nono, what it sounded like you were suggesting was that we shouldn't have even batted an eye to these sort of actions at all; in other words, not care. Average speed limits across the country are between 65-75mph and usually people drive 10-15 over unless they are in a huge rush. Cops rarely even pull you over if you're going 15 over unless they need to write a ticket or are just being a douche. I don't know why everyone is freaking out over someone going 84. That's not even that fast...

Maximum speeds in the US are typically faster than those in Canada, so keep that in mind before dismissing a certain speed as "not fast".

And as a Canadian, I can say that 84 mph is really fast compared to speeds and speedlimits here. The limit for highways here is ~62mph (100km/h), and I rarely see people driving over 125km/h (77mph).

I got caught by a speed trap going 55 in a 40. I gave a short and convincing story and wrote me a ticket for 50 in a 40. Saved me from getting my ass kicked.

Some remote roads in Texas have been getting 80mph speed zones. Interstates near where I live only get up to 60-65mph.

The Denver area interstates actually have 75mph speed limits, so it really just depends on where you're at. Local to IL where I lived before the interstate speed limit was only 65mph. Either way, driving recklessly is not uncommon, but it doesn't make it any less of a bad idea.
