Net Neutrality / The Internet is under Siege!
Quick Overview
"Athene explains the situation better than anyone I know of. Crystal clear for those of you who can't stand reading walls of text. Stand up internet, fight for your right to party!" - Youtube.com http://youtube.com/watch?v=AA5ZR_jxdXU What is Net Neutrality? "When we log onto the Internet, we take a lot for granted. We assume we'll be able to access any Web site we want, whenever we want, at the fastest speed, whether it's a corporate or mom-and-pop site. We assume that we can use any service we like -- watching online video, listening to podcasts, sending instant messages -- anytime we choose. What makes all these assumptions possible is Network Neutrality. Network Neutrality -- or "Net Neutrality" for short -- is the guiding principle that preserves the free and open Internet. Put simply, Net Neutrality means no discrimination. Net Neutrality prevents Internet providers from speeding up or slowing down Web content based on its source, ownership or destination. Net Neutrality is the reason why the Internet has driven economic innovation, democratic participation, and free speech online. It protects the consumer's right to use any equipment, content, application or service on a non-discriminatory basis without interference from the network provider. With Net Neutrality, the network's only job is to move data -- not choose which data to privilege with higher quality service. Learn more in Net Neutrality 101." - Who is attacking Net Neutrality? "Virgin has been trying to calm the internet revolt against them for saying they would limit users' internet access for commercial ends, stating "We're not suggesting there will be any denial of access to those who don't want to pay." and then going on to confirm their previous anti-net neutrality statement: "VM could offer content providers deals to upgrade their provisioning if they want to ensure best access to to broadband subscribers.". They did not comment on their earlier statements about putting non-premium content providers on their slower "bus lanes"." - Last edited by stretchypanda; 04-21-2008 at 05:52 PM.. |

Only three posts and you're already advertising for a site. I expected more.

Nothing Athene does will get my support because they tease me with boobs that are never actually there.

So now I'm on Twitter @NoahWright. And I write the blog for their website. Plus I do cool programming in-house that you'll never see. =O |

Virgin isn't Microsoft; I doubt they'll get away with it. I certainly won't partake in any of their "services".

Also, a lot of people don't seem to actually know how this issue really works.
