Recommend me classics.
I only have very few movies on my watched list. I obviously miss a big bunch of classics; movies that everyone simply must have watched. I think the only super classic that I did watch was Pulp Fiction.
So I've decided to finally start to put a little bit of effort into watching some movies, considering I'm gonna have a little bit of spare time. First movie is gonna be 2001: A Space Odyssey. Note that it doesn't necessarily have to be a "good" movie; it has to be a movie that makes people like "what? You haven't?" when you tell them you haven't seen it yet. I simply want to extend my knowledge of movies to what most people have. I've really seen too few movies in my life so far. Thanks, much appreciated~

Re: Recommand me classics.
2001 is a tough movie to start with but it's worth the watch. Just don't watch it when you're feeling sleepy.
Some others you might want to check out : The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, A Clockwork Orange, The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Alfred Hitchcock stuff (Psycho, Rear Window, Vertigo, North by Northwest), Blade Runner, Fight Club, The Silence of the Lambs, American Beauty, Se7en, Memento, Alien, etc... edit : more recent ones you can check out : Oldboy, Cidade de Deus, The Departed, Moon, Snatch.

Re: Recommend me classics.
Let's see...
* The Avengers (assuming it hasn't been mentioned here yet and you haven't seen it yet) * Stand By Me * The Grapes of Wrath * The Shawshank Redemption * Spy Kids * No Country For Old Men * Downfall * Inglorious Basterds * Lawrence of Arabia * Full Metal Jacket * Seven Samurai * The Ten Commandments * Highlander (the first movie, on it's own) * The Great Escape * Slumdog Millionaire * Pride & Prejudice (the one with Keira Knightley) * Hairspray (the one with Zac Efron) * Spirited Away (English Dub or Japanese Subs so you can tell what's happening) * Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea (same thing) * And finally, just to dick with you, Battlefield Earth.

Re: Recommend me classics.
I was about to mention A Clockwork Orange and Full Metal Jacket but it's mentioned already. I love both of them.
Scarface too if you haven't already seen it. As a Cuban myself I find it amusing how Al Pacino took the character/accent and the way cocaine (yeyo) has changed him throughout the movie was interesting to me too.

Re: Recommend me classics.
marionintendo is 100% correct (i got it right this time plop!! xoxo)
i watch the matrix every once in a while to remind myself of cyberpunk's serious awesomeness, same with ghost in the shell (<- watch dis) also, did you guys know that the matrix was inspired by ghost in the shell, shirow's cyberpunk manga from the early 90s? here's a comparison video of the matrix and ghost in the shell! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3tF7TL0Qh4#t=1m27s the wachowski brothers said they tried to capture the feel of cyberpunk.. and ghost in the shell did a fantastic job of providing that framework, and the matrix provided that cyberpunk feel to america! also: blade runner is a good movie to watch along with the matrix.

Re: Recommend me classics.
Other people here mentioned some good ones already but I guess anything with Arnold Schwarzenegger is good. Terminator, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, (the 3rd one kinda sucked IMO) Total Recall, Predator, Commando, etc.

Re: Recommend me classics.
Classics eh?
Blow Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas Where the Buffalo Roam The Illusionist Taxi Driver Two Hands Never Die Alone Black Dynamite Idiocracy Requiem For a Dream Romper Stomper American History X Reservoir Dogs The Big Lebowski Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels Sin City Sleuth I tried to stick to some less appreciated classics rather than the obligatory Stanley Kubrick, Mario Puzo or Martin Scorsese films (With the exception of Taxi Driver of course). These are just some of the movies that are (for me, at least) absolutely unforgettable. Enjoy~ Last edited by Mourningfall; 04-28-2013 at 07:57 AM.. |

Re: Recommend me classics.
Damn, that's quite some titles. Thanks guys! Also LOTR and The Matrix I happen to have seen; but I saw The Matrix when I was only like 10 so I don't really know it in deep detail anymore. I've added most of these to my to-watch list. Empty time just became movie time.
I'm happy also to see that I've seen #1 on the IMDB list (Shawshank Redemption). I agree that that movie was plain brilliant.
