Stealing....Yay or Nay?
Quite frankly in my persecptive, stealing is not that bad. It really depends on what you steal. I take over-priced manga and snacks, while others steal large amounts of stuff. Some of my friends, like Lupin aruge that stealing is in fact a stupid thing.
The only waya stealing is stupid is if u get caught. Then your stupid. If u don't get caught, then its the damn bookstores fault that they don't have a tighter security system. All in alll, I just wanted to hear your ideas on this...... ~Mr.Hamsterbeat |

I'm neutral to it. I steal when someone stole from me first. I get it back by stealing what's mine, and possibly beat the guy up for stealing from me. I've done this same thing a lot of times, but I have never started the stealing.

Not really a big fan of stealing. I've stolen before, and it just makes me feel guilty. IMO it will all catch up to you at some point.

I don't just because it forces me into a huge guilt trip.

I steal things to get back at the person, I won't go out of my way to steal something, I use to steal candy from the corner store but then I just stopped.

Don't be such a klepto. Stealing things is stupid, if you are too poor to get things, die, or get a job.

I think it's funny that a lot of you say stealing is bad and terrible, but many of you have downloaded songs for Stepmania that you don't own. That's stealing, too. I bet 99% of you have something on your computer that isn't free that you downloaded for free. I'm guilty of it, and so are most of you.
As for stealing things like, from a store, I wouldn't do it. Too easy to get caught, it drives up prices, it makes me feel bad, etc etc. Bootleg games and music so much better, really. It doesn't drive up the prices, it's easier to do, and it doesn't seem as bad, so you aren't guilty. And for the record, the games I download don't get played that much. I played the UT2004 demo just as much as I played the full UT2004 game. I might go out and buy it one day so I can play online, but I don't play any one game enough to make a major investment. Some games, such as Half Life 2, I download and then say "Wow, this game is awesome. I HAVE to get this game!" So I'm not stealing from the company, I'm trying before I buy. What I do now is comparable to having a friend who owns the game and you borrow it until you beat it, then you give it back and uninstall from your computer.

Why bother buying something if it's already downloaded? PC games suck anyway, might as well not spend any money on them.

No, I do not steal. And I think stealing is a terrible idea.
Now, like Evilbutterfly said, Quote:
But stealing from bookstores and stealing candy? Jeez, I don't get how there's even a debate. I would never steal from there, and in my mind, it's just clearly and undeniably wrong. But I guess it's not the same for everyone. Stealing? Nay.

Well, sometimes I'd buy because I can't play them online unless they're legit, and usually playing online is what adds all the replay value.
And here's a fun thing to think about: Illegal downloading now is as common and accepted as illegal drinking was back during prohibition.

Stealing from "Big Business" is acceptable in my book. Examples of this include: bootleg movies, bootleg games, and illegal mp3s. I'd never actually steal form a store or something though.

What about a big chain store that sells movies and/or games and/or music?
That seeems the same to me.

Leeching on torrents is just as bad as stealing.
If you leech without seeding later you should be shot. ~Squeek PS - Stealing REAL things? No man. What goes through your head that makes you think it's OK? GET MONEY...LEGALLY. |

hamsterbeat, there is a distinct difference between stealing from a main store and stealing from tiny privately owned business. Syntaxcrash (you probably don't know) stole a bunch of stuff from a store in appalachia while we were working as part of a program to fix up houses down there (how ironic). For gods sake...they're worried about having enough one dollar bills, nevermind having items stolen from them.
There is also a difference for when you steal to survive or support your family and to steal, seeking attention. I bet nobody here has ever stolen something they actually needed. if you think cheating on a test isn't fair, neither is stealing. it's a way to get more in life without earning it. |
