Default Turn it in

I have an essay due tonight and i have to submit it using http://turnitin.com/static/index.html . This website checks for plagiarism. My essay cant be over 6% plagiarized. Does anyone know any mock sites that i can submit it to so i can check if im safe or not? I tried google but had no luck.

For people who've never used TurnItIn, that 6% is a statistical impossibility. It uses an algorithm that checks sentence structure and the like, but it's not very good at it. It tends to think of everyone as guilty until proven innocent, even if you don't plagiarize.

If it's the same assignment for everyone in the class, odds are extremely good that you'll cite the same source as someone else and the entire line will throw up a flag that will bump up the 'similar' percentage well over 6%.

I only had to use it one semester of my University classes, but my assignments registered like 80% most of the time because everyone was citing the same source and paraphrasing in similar ways. I've never plagiarized a single assignment in my entire educational career and I guarantee not a single assignment was under 6% uniqueness.

I never had to be under a certain percent, though, so I don't know where to go to find a site like that.

My teacher probably said 6% to scare us since its our first time using it. As for the dont plagiarize other peoples work comment, I didnt plagiarize at all, but i just wanted to see how much it would say i did before sending it in. My topic is abortion, so odd are there will be a lot of similar thinkers who have put their work on the internet. Also its not the same assignment for everyone in the class. Everyone got a different controversial topic.
Also in some universities if you get above a low percent (10-20) they give you a zero.

When I had assignments due on turnitin, I could see my results, so I could see exactly what it thought I plagiarized.

Your prof. sees that, too. It tells them what source it found, how close to the original wording you are, stuff like that, so that they can judge if you just paraphrased or you're blatantly putting stuff out there as your own.

I dont know of a mock site that you could use, but 6% seems somewhat low. My school uses turn it in, but we never had a percentage limit or anything like that.

Like i said, the 6% was most likely just to scare us so that we wouldn't plagiarize. She will probably not care unless it shows that a lots been plagiarized. I just want to be safe since i have a very discussed topic.
Edit: i just handed it in, i got 20 percent plagiarized lol. Only think i plagiarized were my quotes....wtf
lol, this thing is so stupid, 19 percent was plagiarized from papers handed in to other school that i dont even have access to, the other 1 percent was wikipedia.
