How to get better at something?
I'm sort of new here, but I have been practicing a lot!
i just need help with one thing... how do i get better at reading the arrows quicker? Since I am still a beginer I have practiced every song starting from the begining. But there is a very difficult part in Computer Dreams where the arrows start to appear way too quickly. I have tried going back to the previous song but i continue to get good scores. Is there any advice? And If you have any can u please post your highest score in Computer Dreams you have had? (If you remeber them) |

I AAA'd Computer Dreams.
(That means all perfects) If you want to get better at reading you should raise your speedmod. |

Re: How to get better at something?
Goto FFR the game > Settings > Speed Mod and then just experiment until you find one that suits you. I use 2.25 (Subbie only one)

Re: How to get better at something?
Deeply sorry for all the questions but the only option are
x1.0 x1.25 x1.50 x1.75 x2.0 x3.0 The speed was already on the slowest. Is there anyway to change that? |

Re: How to get better at something?
Just click on any of them. I personally use 1.75x.
I'd recommend starting out trying 1.25x and working your way up.

Re: How to get better at something?
i would definitely recommend increasing the speed. i did that a few times till i went from 1.0 to 2.0 and every time i noticed an almost immediately improvement. i was stuck playing lvl 6 (tricky) songs at 1.00 speed, and then i increased it and i was able to play lvl 7 (difficult). now i play at 2.00 and i have a large percentage of lvl 7 fc'd, some lvl 8 fc'd and can pass lvl 9 songs, and am getting some AAA's. so yeah, up the speed.
i think the best ive gotten on computer dreams is a blackflag (one good). i need to try it again so i can AAA it. |

Re: How to get better at something?
hehe i've been playing for 2.7 years now (off and on). . .and i still consider myself a noob at this game .
increasing the speed should defently help. the arrows go faster, but they are more spread out (if that makes any sense at all) making it much easier to read the arrows. another trick that alot of people use (including me) is to cut your screen in half. now before you go get a chain saw and ruin you computer!!!! just re-size your browser window. i do it just above where it says "perfect" "good" etc. . .i don't see that at all. i can still see my arrow combo ticker thingy though. sounds like it'd make the game harder. . . but for me, i find it much easier now. your brain only sees half the arrows comming at you, so there's less information to process. be warned though. . .you start doing this, and you'll probably never be able to go back to full screen (lol i can't even full combo "normal" songs in full screen mode now . and as always. . . practice, practice, practice. lol like that saying doesn't get old. . . but seriously. this game is tough and takes time to get any good at. it takes me forever to get comfortable with new levels of songs. i spent almost a year (very off and on) on tricky songs without being able to play difficult songs hardly at all. i moved from difficult to very difficult pretty quickly. and now i just made the jump from very difficult songs, to challenging songs. i think i'll be on challenging songs for quite awhile. very fast, and there's alot of parts where i simply just can't read yet. but i know in time, if i continue to play challenging songs. . .my brain will eventualy begin to process it better. oh, and try relaxxing . take a deep breath when a song slows down. relax your fingures a bit (instead of keeping them super tense and pounding on the keys.) have fun and take care . thnx.

Re: How to get better at something?
when you first start switching to play faster
dont automatically go 2.00x or 1.75x because you may find it harder, so gradually gain the speed 1.25x then 1.5x it worked for me hah |

Re: How to get better at something?
FFR is like every game : you need to practice. (And i would say : FFR is like everything you'll experience during your life : if you want to improve at something, you need to practice a lot).
Spending 8 hours a day for 6 or 7 weeks made me reach a decent level (from total newb to FC 9 or few 10). At some point you'll see a lack of improvment, even if you re still spending a lot of time in FFR. Then you can play it "casually" and your skill will improve by itself, dont know exactly how it works but I guess the reading / speed abilities improve even when you dont play FFR. Also, playing spread and setting speed to 1.75x or 2x help a lot. Dont be afraid to play some 7 or 8 early, even if it seems that you re only mashing your way out, it will improve your skill of reading a lot of arrows quickly. |

Re: How to get better at something?
The best thing that I could say is pick the highest speed you can read and still hit the arrows, to the point of it being uncomfortable. You should be getting a lot of goods with this speed because you are relying on reflex. Once you find that speed, move your speed mod over to the left one notch in the settings menu (if 2x, then 1.75, if 1.75, then 1.5, etc).

you do a song or two at a speed that's just slightly too fast for you, then slow the speed back down to a speed you're more comfortable with, and all the sudden things are soooo much easier to read and hit. great tip there thnx.

This is actually the way that I combat mindblocks (that is, when you have an exact way to do one section, every time, but it's the wrong way). I normally play on 1.5x, but when I catch a mindblock, I play a few games on 2.0x, and then get the score I need to get on 1.75x. That's actually how I unintentionally got an AAA on Reality. XD |

Re: How to get better at something?
What's interesting about the above tip is that it works in reverse for me. If I play Stepmania for a while on C640 and then switch to FFR with a 2.0 mod, the slightly faster 2.0 mod allows me to read arrows better. Lowering speed mods always results in worse PA for me.

Re: How to get better at something?
Ah, I see. I can't quite pull something like that, just simply switching from the SM to FFR noteskin messes me up.
