Default Whats the one book that molded you into the person you are today?

Has there ever been a book that just changed your perspective on the world? The book that has changed mine would be either tuesday's with morrie, or the catcher in the rye. They both made me think about life, and helped me find my place in the world.

Isn't that "Fundamental Principles of the Metaphysic of Morals" ? Still a strong choice either way.

There's no way I could possibly pick a single book or even set of books that impacted my life more than any other. I've simply read too many books to ever pin it down. The general "Readings I did while in university for philosophy" would have to be pretty high up, as well as a number of works of fiction that still had a lot of philosophical basis to them, things like Atlas Shrugged etc.

Left Behind: The Kids from Tim Lahaye and Jerry B. Jenkins. It's a total of 40 books in the series, and its a continuation from book to book, so I guess that counts as 1 "book".

I don't have a specific book, but the WolfRO forums from way back when were good for me. xD

As for books I like lots of books.

So who have you killed lately.

Personally, The Stand by Stephen King.

Mark David Chapman, the man who shot and killed John Lennon in 1980 said he wanted to do so after his reading of The Catcher in the Rye.

And of course it is. The theme of it is one of my favorite, but I can't find any zombie books like that. Although it's not about zombies. The virus though wiping out life, awesome.

House of Leaves.

The book just has so many layers and facets, it's really shown me how to appreciate hard work. And it's such a mind-trip.

I honestly can't really explain how it's impacted me.

But the Stand is pretty good. First Stephen King book I'd recommend to someone (and probably the only one).

I really loved One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. A good book to learn some interesting information is Musicophilia by Oliver Sacks. It delves into how music affects the brain and there's stories in there of people who were struck by lightning and all of a sudden yearned to play the piano. It's a really interesting read.

Oliver Sachs' work definitley has some of the most intruiging studies out there. I've only read one and a half of his books, but plan on reading Musicophilia soon, once I can get my hands on a copy of it.

Ugh...if they'd reprint a version of House of Leaves that was JUST The Navidson Record, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. The rest of the story itself was just uninteresting, to say nothing for how irritating it became reading 4 pages ahead of footnotes cascading down and then having to find your way back out to the main text every 20 pages.

I don't really read at all lol, but I was impacted by A thousand splendid suns by Khaled Hosseini because it made me realize how fortunate I really am to be a woman in america. It doesn't hurt that the story is beautiful too .
