A few days ago I decided to play DDR on pad. First time playing pad seriously, playing for an hour at least each day trying to get better.
I downloaded DDR officials, ITG1-3 and some other random stuff. I am going to force myself to do crossovers properly.

Day 1 didn't take any screenshots.

I made a 180bpm 8ths stamina file for myself. idk how to do pad patterns but it's fun for me so that's cool. Rated it an 8, I don't know if that is accurate at all but seems right?

My go-to warmup file. I love the jump sequences.


I did okay on the long 16th run. I wish the bursts at the start were stepped as 16ths too (where there are 24ths in the most difficult chart)


My go-to warmdown file. Playing without the bar it's stepped in a way that you sorta feel like you're shuffling.

exotic ethnic is such a bastard of a 9, honestly one of my favorites from DDRMAX though. Good luck trying to pass that one!

I'm using Etterna because I like stuff like the NPS graph and it took less time to set up on my new computer (which was one of the main points of Etterna anyway, so I'm glad that goal was accomplished)

I read crossovers (and spins) fairly well, honestly. So far I've always known which foot I should be using, the problem is that I'm never sure how far swing my foot over - I don't have a good sense of where I am relative to the mat yet so I frequently over/undershoot. Every time in the last run of Exotic Ethnic I've swing too far and lost my balance and then completely lost my place in the stream lol
I admit I double step spins though. Fuck spins.

SO

I have six Cobalt Fluxes.

And they're all broken.
And I've tried cleaning them all, nothing.
Used a multimeter to check all the wires and it looks like they should, in theory be working.
But then they don't, so I figured it's the control boxes.
But all three of my control boxes don't seem to work either, in any combination with any of the pads.

So I'm playing on a Red Octane soft pad, the nice ones with the foam insert and raised arrows. It's honestly nice, but I do wish I could get at least one of the $2000 of hard pad I have lying around to actually fucking work.
Does anyone know where I can get replacement control boxes? lol

Also, any suggestions for files?
Some of my friends have started playing too and they were wondering if I could get more packs with: electro swing songs, and Helbinde (one of my friends likes meme music more than me... it's scary)
So yeah suggestions on packs/singles that include those genres/artists would be cool too. Remember I play at the 7-9 level by official DDR ratings, and most of my friends play in the 4-8 area.

Regarding your pads, I saw this comment linked in a different thread on reddit the other day. He's essentially creating a new control box using a USB encoder and vga cable cheap off eBay. Worked for him and there is a pin Diagram available for reference. You might be able to fix it with that, otherwise toward the end of the year there will be a brand new set of metal pads released that are supposed to be as good as they get, though you'll want to save up a bit for it.

Regarding packs, in GD's thread of everything stepmania you should definitely download all of mutes packs and the r21 packs, plus anything that has the star next to it as those are meant to be easier files.

Get the Vocaloid Project Pad Pack 4th Has a wide range of difficulties and really good charts. Haven't tried all of them since they get pretty hard, but I've only disliked one of the ones I have played. Has a decent amount of xmod charts as well, so just be aware of that :P
