can someone explain to me why "goods" are not a good thing in ffr
d3 players are allowed to make brag board threads, right?
new best non-mash fc (difficulty 77) on ffr i believe that if it says "good" it should be a good thing because that's why you called it a "good", right? if goods weren't meant to be a good thing then you wouldn't have called them "good" you'd call them "bad", and similarly instead of "average", you'd call them "terrible". also when you get a perfect, you don't jump up in exhilarated euphoria, but you just move on, so you should call them "average" or something. it sort of feels like the game is being snarkily sarcastic every time i get a "good" and then be told it isn't really a good thing so by my reckoning this should be an AAA, right?

Its the same in all rhythm games, it just they have to differentiate the judging in some way.

If you don't do better than perfect, you can't get a AAA.

Goods aren't Perfect. However, Perfect should be better than Amazing if you go by literal definitions.
Amazing could be seen as Flawless instead so it makes more sense. It's just a way of differentiating judgments like previously mentioned -- there are two late good windows and one early good window, while perfect is within 1 frame of the note on each side. |

Re: can someone explain to me why "goods" are not a good thing in ffr
wasn't what i meant. i get that it's a way of differentiating between judgements, which is totally necessary in a game like this. it's the names that i was trying to point out - basically the irony of the situation between when the game tells you that you got a perfect/good/average/miss and the way you actually think of it, which is more like "average/bad/terrible/cataclysmic", is something i don't completely understand why it happens. also i'm pretty bad at not getting goods everywhere even in easy bits of songs, so i like to make myself delusional by thinking that they're actually a good thing because of the name

I think you should play around with your judge setting a bit if you're getting that many perfects and goods rather than amazings.
also if your score is a AAA, then everyone in D6 has a AAA except _Zenith_. Last edited by Zageron; 11-1-2014 at 05:06 PM.. Reason: double |

Goods are good though, but perfect is better.

Real champions go for only Amazings, no perfects.
...this just in. I'm not a champion.

it is good, but it's not perfect people trying to be perfect don't want goods. after playing a game for years, people don't just want to be "good" at it.

Re: can someone explain to me why "goods" are not a good thing in ffr
If you're complaining just about the use of the words "perfect/good", consider alternatives like "satisfactory/unacceptable" really don't have the same ring to them :P
Honestly though, a lot of it comes down to rhythm game tradition - if you want to complain, ask the people at Konami why we use these words. Also, "good" is a relatively short single-syllable word, as are "miss" and "boo" so they make sense for conveying information. Having "perfect" be a longer word differentiates the display and makes it much more obvious when you get a non-perfect judgment; you can tell out of the corner of your eye that you screwed up simply because the word is shorter. Perhaps "average" should be replaced with something shorter like "bad" but we also want to be a little encouraging, no? Finally, I'd argue that you are confusing two definitions of good. "Good" as a judgment is used to mean something that is of high quality, but not perfect. On the other hand, when you are complaining about receiving this judgment as not being a "good" thing you are using the definition of "good" meaning conferring advantage or having a positive effect. These are two different uses of the word: a thing can be good (in quality) without being good (in effect). For example you could have two murderers, one is ineffective at murdering and one is good at murdering, but certainly neither is having a good effect on society.

Re: can someone explain to me why "goods" are not a good thing in ffr
There's always some issue you can find with the exact terminology of a game. In fact, let me here make a case that the current system has racist undertones:
Blackflags are worse than whiteflags and AAA's are indicated as yellow in R^3, suggesting that a perfect score is Asian.
