Default FPS

Is there anyway to force your FPS in Stepmania to a certain number? Just curious.

Edit:sorry if the title is misleading.

Well as much as vsync allows constant framerate I wouldn't recommend it as it gives visual delay and it could result in messing up your accuracy and most likely you'll have to adjust your cmod down a bit. Have you tried the WaveOut fix ?

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I'll check.

Bump. But I'm wondering in sm5, can you force the fps to a certain number like r3?

I don't think you can force it to a certain number without using vsync, but if you're just trying to get it higher, try the Fast Note Rendering option in Graphics/Sound options, and turning BG Brightness to 0%.
Each of those has a substantial impact on rendering, so both of them together will give you a higher frame rate (use the Show Rendering Stats choice in the debug menu to see the difference (hold F3 and tap 6)).

Well, there is a theory. Since I play R^3 with 50 fps, I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same in SM5 just so if I switch back in forth, my eyes won't be too overwhelmed. I can't play too high of an FPS because it makes songs seem faster than what they actually are.

Isn't SM5 in 60fps already? 50 to 60 isn't that much of a leap but I get your point. When I played FFR, I used to play at 40fps because my laptop could handle that better (so could my eyes at the time) but now if I ever play at a friend's house, I use 240fps (lol any number over 60 doesn't mean shit) because my eyes adapted to it from watching so many of my replays.

If you turn VSync on and set the refresh rate to 60 in SM5, the game will cap it at 60 fps(and I believe you're right about 60 fps being the default). Whatever you set your refresh rate to in SM5, that will be your FPS as long as vsync is enabled. However, since there is an option to set the game to 60, I'm certain there is a way to add an additional option to achieve a frame rate that is lower than 60. I looked through the coding briefly, but I haven't necessarily found where I could attempt to do some modifications.

I believe that the human eye can't see past 70-100 FPS. So anything past that cap is pretty much pointless unless you're that OCD about your FPS in games. Depending on the physical specs of your monitor, the higher the refresh rate will appear smoother because of the hz of your monitor. So...if your monitor can only go up to 60hz, 100 refresh rate in SM5 may appear choppy/weird. If you set it to 60, it looks smooth. This is all in theory of course.
