D5 song feels pretty offsync. Just me?
EDIT: Just can't find an offset that feels right =/

Re: 9th Official Tournament: Round 6 Discussion
Pokemon battle imaging - No.3
Cool song, seemed a little understepped for what the song offered. There were some places in the middle where stepping the 16ths in the melody and then not layering the hands would have made a lot more sense to me while keeping the intended difficulty intact. I expect someone will make a v2 of this because the song offers interesting bass drum rhythms, the interesting solo at the end, and some good opportunities for fun jumpstream well into the FMO-FGO range. That said it's not a bad file, it does what it was meant to do, but there's a lot of missed opportunities in my eyes that could have made it more interesting but still in the 40 difficulty range. Railgun fk u i was gonna step this Honestly though it probably turned out better than I could ever do lol PR was great, layering was spot on. Nothing to complain about technically, really. Lots of very trolly jump transitions 4(34)(124) but it's slow enough that they aren't too bad, and the transitions are common enough that they go from "that one stupid part I hate" to "oh, the entire file is about those transitions" Sonic the Hedgehog (Dubstep) I saw the intro trill into 24ths and thought to myself, "bet AJ stepped this..." File is FULL of AJ-isms, the jumpjacks to the bass drum, the split (13)(24) jump transitions everywhere. Very distinctive style that made a nice balance between stepping wubs, vocals, sound effects, and the percussion. Jacks to the "Sonic stopping" sound were pretty troll, the 1-handed trills to the coin sound and the various 32nd bursts were as well but definitely appropriate and hittable. The cyan arrow color theory took me a bit to figure out (I'm slow) but it fits, pretty indifferent to them overall. In general, the little memorable sections sprinkled all around the file strike a really good balance between being different and being appropriate for the difficulty curve. I wish more people would be as careful as AJ is to get this balance right! p.s. wouldn't be surprised if people complain this file is underrated... Valhalla I bet bmah is kicking himself for not getting to step this file first. The song SCREAMS bmah and honestly the steps do the bmahnster justice, gj wilson-chan First white arrow sounds like more than one sound. idk. First 32nd jack is wtf, there's also two at the end. Two-framer transitions pls Layering certainly feels great throughout, and the patterns flowed well enough. Middle JS part with the 24ths was extremely fun wow Climax felt very climax-y without being overly gay so nicely done there. I'd have to play this file a lot more to like, super-review it but my initial impression is A+ Sokuseki! Nouchoku Music System Felt kinda like a Kommisar file. The jump single break single jump gallop parts felt a little odd, can't quite place it. They flowed okay but I couldn't really tell what was being stepped there. Maybe a subtle percussion/vocal thing that wasn't obvious but felt right? idk The various color note parts and 12th interludes flowed really nicely. Honestly my only regret is that D5 didn't get a file this hard like, 2-3 rounds ago. In summary: wow so moonspeak such broken jumpstream very climax theory D5 wow Rave 5 (34)4 two-framer transition hahaha no good thing it's like right at the start Honestly when I was stepping this I had a lot of trouble figuring out how I would tackle the part after the Jock Jams style melody starts and then the hi-hat-ish thing comes in. The runningmen you chose fit really nicely, I liked that. There was some extremely gay shit going on in some of the 32nd bursts, I think I saw a 4(23)1 in one of them? yoshl pls One thing that was weird to me is that right about halfway through where the breakcore cuts out for a second, the Jock Jams instrument that was stepped earlier as singles was stepped as jumps with nothing else going on. Pretty minor but noticeable layering mistake (certainly if something WAS going on to layer there it wasn't readily obvious to me) The breakcore part about 66-75% of the way through got really 1-hand trilly. Was pretty fun but deceptively hard to hit. About 80% through there is a BRUTAL long right hand trill into two (34) minijacks followed shortly by a (34)4 transition. That part ruined me lol Overall actually really fun. Like yeah I can nitpick about little things but it's a file I feel I will play again and enjoy so yeah, quite a good job. Definitely not an easy song to step either. Epidermis v2 token song rip NPS graph looks very Stinger The party's starting! omg yes this is the bmahchang JS file I've wanted for so many years. The trills were pretty troll as was the 32nd/24th trill thing at the end, but overall it flowed like... extremely well. I'm impressed. The minijacks right before the 12th section were kinda weirdly framered. I'm guessing those were frame fixes or bpm dickery because they did not feel natural. This definitely rates up there with casino bmahphone for my favorite recent bmah file p.s. More consistently dense than VS Boss Battle

Re: 9th Official Tournament: Round 6 Discussion
you know my bursts are shitty they always are lol
and the layering was done on purpose for the instrument thing. it's more to fit the progression of the song i.e. the initial ones are much low key, but the second ones stepped as jumps i felt fit the song much more after being sandwiched between 2 breakcore sections i think bmah commented on the file like "you know there's this one-hand trill right" and i said "yes. yes i do. " |

Re: 9th Official Tournament: Round 6 Discussion
Yeah Epidermis is NOT a 91, just by thinking of like Schmollbluk and M8BT and Rain (YMCK) alone, this file's way easier than all of those (and they're all in the 85-90 range). Hell, even my version of Apocynthion Drive is harder than this, and I'd put that in the 84-85 range. Put Epidermis onto like an 87/88 level, if even that... the only reason I'll even give it that is the length and the colorglut bursts near the end...

Re: 9th Official Tournament: Round 6 Discussion
i guess i didn't refresh so that's why i was able to play epidermis v2 a few times
i'd bump it down to like an 88/89 but i have no real reason to say this other than because i feel like it's pretty easy except for the ending

Re: 9th Official Tournament: Round 6 Discussion
Epidermis looks pretty cool.
Seems like the difficulty sorta builds up, beginning looks like something I'd be SDGing and then it progresses to dense icyworld jumptrill kind of stuff that's pretty rough on stamina, then it finally goes to the color note weirdness that I can barely read.
