Minimum amount of posting per Day Phase
As we all saw in that anon game, there were a couple of phases where a whole lot of nothing was happening and some players didn't even so much as post even once during a Day Phase.
This thread is to discuss if a rule should be in place where a player MUST post at least a certain amount per day or they will automatically get replaced and or modkilled. What do you all think, eh?

Re: Minimum amount of posting per Day Phase
5 posts per day phase would be good I think, even if it's to say shit like "been busy, will read later" x 5
modkills are detrimental to games so I'd imagine if a player gets modkilled for inactivity too many times (ie more than once), people will stop playing with them or mods will ban them from playing in games |

Re: Minimum amount of posting per Day Phase
It was a thing in the united nations game, dont know why it hasnt been a thing since. See no reason why people shouldnt be forced to play in a game they signed up for or be removed.

Re: Minimum amount of posting per Day Phase
From experience with mafia type games on a forum; so long as someone posts every other day it should be fine. It looks really suspicious but that's part of the mind game; no info is still info. But this depends on the amount of power roles; if 80% have power roles than being silent can actually be a + (So long as people aren't cheating and using a 3rd party to chat with each other).
That said; you should probably have a role call post to say you were active during that day, if someone just afk's for a day and comes back the next day and he was (let's say) cop. That is something that needs fixing. A silent cop is actually important sometimes.

Re: Minimum amount of posting per Day Phase
I'm all for it, in my opinion.
I agree with Gradiant, if you sign up for the game, you're telling the mod that you will commit AT THE MINIMUM to pay attention and post within the game. Signing up and not doing anything is dumb, and I hate it. Yes, we all understand that life happens and there might be a case where you can't even access the Internet for a good couple days or so, but the scenarios when these things do happen tend to be things where the person who is signing up should already know well in advance that they will not be able to get on at particular days. |

5 seems like a fair amount. It's just enough so that even people who find it hard to post as much can comfortably make it without forcing anything.

Re: Minimum amount of posting per Day Phase
5 per phase might be too much for some people. Idk. Like back in 106 I was having trouble getting my two per phase down at the beginning. It'll scare away newer players

Honestly; I still feel like it'll be better if instead of implementing a mandatory speak that you instead just implement a mandatory role call per day cycle (assuming the game is 48 hours per cycle). If someone chooses to be silent for the entire day, every day, they'll probably get spotted by one of the power roles early on (if that was their intention; good for them)

I'd say if it's a new player, make the requirement lower until (you guessed it) they played more than 5 games. Kind of like jTWG stuff. |

Re: Minimum amount of posting per Day Phase
I agree with a minimum set at 5. As a newer player, there is that fear to post and it helps nobody when someone doesn't post.

Re: Minimum amount of posting per Day Phase
The problem arises when a situation as Kayla had unexpectedly pops up. Granted she did at least make the effort to still be around, but what if someone signs up then midway through has some sort of irl issue that prohibits their activity?
How would this be treated as opposed to just blatantly ignoring the game?

Re: Minimum amount of posting per Day Phase
Well they would, hopefully, notified either the thread or PM the host and something can be arranged if it turns out they can no longer continue the game.

Re: Minimum amount of posting per Day Phase
It was Vigilantes, BulletProof (everything that wasn't a power role was one; kind of silly but vigilantes could make safe shots on people so long as no one shot them twice lol), 1 investigator (or whatever was the one that can watch someone and see if they visit people), and a bunch of power mafia roles.

If it is implemented, it should start at one maybe two, and be adjusted as we go along. But simply put five is too many to start at least. If you think forcing posts will make it more comfortable for some players, that's silly. They're not posting at all because they're uncomfortable, add in the threat of being mod killed ect, and then someone is undoubtedly going to use the "you're just trying to meet post quota" against people, it can become something really nasty. Just my two cents though. I'm for making it at least one to start, but I am hard against making it more than three per day / night. |

I actually hate post requirements. Silence is a valid tactic.

Re: Minimum amount of posting per Day Phase
You know what's a better way to make sure people are active? Have the host send a PM to the player asking to reply to that message within the next X hours with something they've done recently or plan to do soon.
Having the player share thoughts with the host is a good way to track activity because the host will get to hear the player's thought process - you should be able to tell as a host who is BSing and who isn't. It's probably the best way to determine if people are actually staying up to date and actually playing. Making a rule that a player should reply to all host PMs and questions is less obstructive to the game experience than a post requirement. All players can trust that the host will remove players who are not dedicating time to the game so issues re: inactivity can be nullified in their entirety. |
