what's the final ruling on variable bitrate mp3s? I was just about to start stepping something when I noticed. BALLS.

(sorry for the double post)

EDIT: just realized I could use Audacity to reconstruct a CBR file. all good in the hood ~~

wc I'm like 40~ seconds through Abstract Art, put my chart on standard. I compared it in play mode with your chart, and it's definitely easier. Should have it finished by Saturday

You & Me (Breeze Mix) V2 (xVaLoRx)
Hard
- Removing a bunch of jumps doesn't make it any easier.
- Also, trills are harder than staircase rolls.
- Still haven't toned down your hold usage. The ending section past M100+ (Beat 396+) shouldn't warrant hold usage as an easier chart.
- Likewise, shorten the hold lengths, especially as an easier chart.
Expert
- An improvement
- Revise Hard chart more and don't half ass it.
Maybe

Alpha Centauri (Anaru)
Medium
- M19+ (Beat 72+) hold pitch relevancy is inaccurate.
- M25+ (Beat 96+) all the 32nds are incorrect—they're actually 12ths/24ths. The [2] jacks are all 12ths which is the major screw up.
- I skimmed through the rest. Overall, jump-jacks weren't all that varied let alone enjoyable to hit. Too long and uninteresting of a file which could've really used a song cut and more variation in layering choices.
No

Be My Pet! (Anaru)
- Hold lengths are way too long.
- Skimmed the rest. Another case of a file in need of a song cut.
- Patterns aren't comfortable to hit either. I can't see anyone sitting through this file and enjoying it quite frankly.
No

DIST SQUAD (Anaru)
Hard
- Isn't simplified enough and isn't any easier.
Expert
- FFR file. This is SM we're talking about here.
- Layering isn't bad. Just very awkward pattern usage.
- I can't see anyone sitting through this file and enjoying it quite frankly.
No

Sacrament of Wilderness (Anaru)
Expert
- Jacks are not enjoyable to hit at all.
- Save for some Hard Songs Megapack or something. Not really something suitable for this pack.
No

www.in just night (Instrumental) (Anaru)
- The entire file is straight stream. I hardly see any effort being put forth into this to vary the pattern usage let alone the layering in itself.
- You're essentially playing the exact same thing endlessly. I can't really see anyone enjoying this file.
No

Route 26 (Anaru)
Hard
- Simplify 64ths—It's a difficulty spike the size of the Sun.
- Simplify and remove a lot of 16th jacks to improve file flow. It really kills the file's playability and are rage bait.
- 24th mini-jacks are too fast to hit comfortably at this speed.
- Overall, layering is decent. The huge problem with this file are the difficulty spiked patterns which don't quite fall into place with how the rest of the file plays out. By which I mean the rest of the file is really easy if you remove every single complaint above, which isn't a good sign. If you're going to step a marathon like this, make it consistently difficult but relevant in structure as opposed to all the difficulty spiked stuff you threw into an otherwise easy file.
No

Charging Swarm of Mousketeers (AlexDest)
- No real commentary.
- Poop easier chart(s).
Pending

Mad Machine (Darkomni)
Easy & Medium
- There is barely any sort of difficulty gap whatsoever. Easy would need to be simplified even further.
Hard
- The difficulty gap between this and the harder chart is the size of the Sun.
Expert
- A lot of holds are unnecessary and aren't really needed. They just make the file harder.
- Inconsistent layering and missing notes in the 2nd half.
- Overall, layering isn't too bad. However, I can't really see anyone enjoying this because the patterns are extremely awkward at this speed.
No

VALLISTA (LongGone)
- No real commentary. Both charts are excellent.
Yes

Foxy Lady (Draco Centauros)
Hard
- Difficulty gap is just a tad large but I'll let it slide.
Expert
- No real commentary. Well layered and enjoyable.
- Reminds me of a post-SMG pre-DCP file for some reason.
Yes

Intro Outro (xVaLoRx)
Hard
- Could be simplified more but I'll let it slide.
Expert
- M28 (Beat 108) I found the layering transition a bit awkward. You could've continued to layer the 4th jumps thoroughly up until Beat 134.
- A few layering quirks here and there but nothing major worth bitching about.
- Overall, well layered.
Yes

buki (Zelda-YEH)
Hard
- Acceptable.
Expert
- Accenting the triangle and other background sounds with different length mini-holds would've been excellent additions, though this is just my personal preference/suggestion.
- No real commentary. Very well layered and enjoyable.
Yes

Watch Out Pt. 2 (rparty89)
- In the beginning measures, the jump layering isn't consistent enough—be much more thorough with what you're layering to fit the feel and structure.
- Beat 174 and 176, you should really shift the patterns around to avoide the 16th jacks. It destroys the file flow.
- There are tons of interesting sounds going on which you can take advantage of and accent/emphasize using mini-holds. For a song like this, don't be afraid to go all out with hold usage.
- M64+ (Beat 252+) I found a bit anti-climactic. I expected heavier layering with jumps because this part is pretty much the largest build-up/rush in the song. What you have at the moment doesn't quite do justice—layer a bit more thoroughly and densely if needed, without creating jacks and awkward patterning.
- Overall, I don't have any problems with the layering in itself. Fix up the above and make an easier chart and you're good to go.
Pending

Battlefield (Rog)
Beginner
- FUC
Medium
- Acceptable
Hard
- Could have simplified much more, but I'll let this one slide since there's an easier chart and the hardest chart is dodgeball.
Expert
- Hard pain jacks and mines.
- Very well layered. A bit on the repetitive side but that's mostly due to song choice.
Yes

Watashi Wa Mizuki Desu (Rin-Dude)
- Very playable and pattern friendly outside of the hard pain 32nds.
- Poop easier chart(s).
Pending

Candy Pop (MarioNintendo)
- Not bad, just very lackluster and uninteresting from song choice and layering choice.
- Missing notes for some vocals.
- Does have an old school-esque vibe. I can't really see many people playing this.
No

Dishevil (Housekeeper)
Medium
- Acceptable I suppose.
Hard
- The 48th/64th walls are overkill.
- Well layered otherwise. I'll have to think about this one.
Maybe

Arcade (Profraine)
- Not suitable for this pack until you thoroughly layer more and have more charts. Save for some pad pack.
No

BONAMANA (Profraine)
- Is this your attempt to rip me off? You blatantly ripped off my CDtitle and my previous GFX style, rofl. Too bad your simfile isn't anywhere close to how I step, try again.
- I reserve the right to replace your GFX BTW—my pack, my rules. I'm not taking your troll bait.
- No real commentary for both charts. If this was your attempt to copy my style, you did an awful job and need to go back to studying.
Yes

Vortex (Torrent)
- It's experimental, very well layered, and hard as balls. I'll pass this off the way it is. Will be the current boss file of the pack.
Yes

EXE (Reshiram)
- No real commentary. Both charts are great.
Yes

Lake Bestriel V2 (Antronach)
You're good to go.
Yes

House of Pleasure (iRanch)
- Vocal mini-holds aren't really necessary. My recommendation would be to scrap all the mini-holds and keep the longer ones only.
- M13+ (Beat 48+) should've layered in the 4th jumps. It transitions much more smoothly into M15 (Beat 56).
- M34+ (Beat 132+) I'd suggest layering in the 4th jumps again. Since the sound is much heavier sounding, it'd mimic the feel much more strongly than ignoring it. In addition, the small breaks in between each stream really breaks the flow. At least layering in 8th notes or what not to fill in gaps will keep it flowing.
- Overall, layering is decent. Reminds me of a wc file actually, lol. Fix up above notes and make easier chart(s).
Pending

MAX150
- For a pack focused around keyboard spread, this isn't suitable. Save for some other pack, preferrably a pad one.
No

Herschel
Expert
- Layering with jumps is very quirky. Layering something more consistent such as bass would've been a better alternative for a song like this.
- Piano chord holds are way too long in length and aren't necessary in this case. Scrap them.
- M39+ (Beat 152+) is very anti-climactic. The build-up is very notable and you haven't really done anything to the layering to present such—in other words, this section doesn't suit the feel as it's too underlayered.
- M47+ (Beat 184+) holds are completely unnecessary and just add onto visual density. Scrap them.
- M55+ (Beat 216+) once again very anti-climactic. You haven't made any really effort in thoroughly layering the section to represent the song at hand.
- Overall, very underwhelming. The entire file is essentially the exact same layering scheme recycled over and over again just with a few different patterns and holds thrown on top. There's absolutely no effort being put forth in varying layering and patterns, which makes for a very dull and boring file.
No

Nightmare Night (megamon88)
- No real commentary. Both charts are good.
Yes

Come on (eastsideman09)
- Really cool gimmicks. Mini-jacks were a little tough but still playable. Swing gimmicks were trippy as hell.
Yes

Mystery Metropolis (Kaneh)
- No real commentary. Both charts are chill.
Yes

32 files in queue.

My bad, just checked back in the email and saw it. Must've missed it since it was buried. I'll look at it in a bit.

Valkyrie Dimension (hi19hi19)
Easier Difficulties
- All acceptable. Hard could be simplified a tad bit more in my opinion.
Expert
- Very cool BPM gimmicks. Well executed.
- Ending is rage bait, lmao.
- Overall, well layered. Good for scoring.
Yes

Centipede (Rog)
Hard
- A little half-assed but I can let it slide because the harder chart has the very danger mines.
Expert
- Random [12] 16th jump after M60 (Beat 236)? Removed for you since I assume you stop stepping at M59 (Beat 232) based off the easier chart.
Yes

34 files in queue. I'm done reviewing for the day. Will assemble a missing GFX list later.
