Default Circus Galop Permission

I've wanted to step this particular song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrWsKGhPi5I
It's similar (though quite different) to the existing Grand Galop Chromatique that is already in FFR.

I can't particularly ask the author for permission to possibly use for FFR, as the file I use is a (mp3-ified version of) MIDI file, of which I can't exactly track the author.

Any suggestions on what I could do?

Edit: I don't use the mp3 part of the vid I linked, I have a better quality version. :3

A version or two, yes. An actual version for FFR, not so much because nobody will step an easier version to get it accepted.

Correction: it's because we don't have permission for any performances, nor has anyone made a MIDI for the song. But if that happened, you can always try to submit this gong show of a song.

Yeah, I guess you are right.

But in all honesty I doubt any of them would even get in anyway unless they were watered down.

We'd also need permission from Marc-andre Hamelin, wouldn't we?

The idea is to not make it that extreme. A tough FMO at max. Im in fact already busy stepping it. If it appears to be unfit for FFR (permission-wise or otherwise) then I at least gained some skill in stepping. I am already more than glad enough that I nailed the BPM because I have a MIDI file.

As for the actual file, I have a MIDI and used a converter to get a proper MP3 off of it. I suppose we would need Hamelin's permission but it seems kind of impossible to contact him :P

Permission would need to be from the performer of whoever played the song when it was done before the MIDI conversion, iirc.

The point is that nobody even actually performed it because the piece is rather impossible to play by any human means.

No. When you make the midi, "you" are the performer technically. So permission from some sort of performer isn't needed. If you used an mp3 of a live performance though, you need the performer's permission. However, the person who create this score is still well and alive, so you'd have to ask permission anyhow. See http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/...ad.php?t=92578

So, for our purposes, anything that was made by someone who died FROM JANUARY 1st 1958 AND ON IS COPYWRITTEN AND YOU MUST GET PERMISSION TO USE no matter who made it, where you live, where they lived, anything. If they died from 1958 on, automatically you need permission to use it.
i.e. if the person who made the song is still alive, you need permission, regardless of whether you made the midi or performed yourself

Also you quickly realize when you start stepping this that, while the song sounds busy, it's actually mostly just 16th jumps because there's just huge chords, not interesting rhythms. You just wind up with jump/hand spam and the occasional 64th roll to the glissandos, it's really not a particularly good song to step.
