I've actually heard really good things about WoW RP...
One of the trials in my guild right before it fell apart and I quit came from an RP server (he had an RP shout macro'd into his Heroism spell that we used to poke fun at him about hehu) and he spoke really highly of the atmosphere of the server. He said the quality of the RP you can get into if you want is really quite nice and he had a lot of fun, but he switched to our non-RP realm because one of his friends was in our guild and they wanted to raid together.

Of course there's the obvious childish stuff (lol naked night elves in Goldshire!) but many of the RP realms are full of serious players and have very good raiding and PvP as well as RP.

...if you're wondering about what the RP scene is like because you want to avoid it, just go to non-RP server. Problem solved :P
I'm wondering because I RP in Rift (I was actually a big part of our server in terms of RP, I play a cleric when I RP and I married a couple in-game lmao). Of course, I've asked in Rift and most of the responses are "lol pornshire lol everyone is a blood elf also ERP lol."

The hardcore RP servers can be a little frightening (Moonguard/Sisters of Elune lulz) but a few of the RP servers and especially the RP-PVP servers have a pretty healthy RP scene that range from people just doing the average 2-3 people RP or entire guilds that do PvP themed world RP. On my server there's even a guild that RP's during raids along with the storyline. It's nifty to watch...Not so nifty if you're not into that kind of thing.

It's hit and miss. If RP is going to be the thing you intend on doing most in WoW, do your research before you roll on a server.

Blackhorn Heroic videos are starting to pop up.
Looks like a really tightly tuned execution fight, sort of like a cross between Mimiron Firefighter and... a boss with a shitload of adds.

Blood Legion's World 2nd 25man kill.
Includes voice chat.

Angered World 6th kill overall (10man)
Includes RP voiceovers with nerdscreams at the end.

Inner Sanctum World 4th/EU first 25man
Includes voice chat and a hilarious death at the start.

Still no 25m heroic Hagara videos as far as I can tell, but I haven't really looked that hard.

Alone - World 11th, US 6th 25m Heroic Hagara Kill.

Personally I've only done Heroic Morchok so far. IMO, so far I'm getting a general feeling that DS is harder than Firelands...Which is something I'm pretty happy with.

Hahaha makes me laugh because I just killed Lady Vashj with a few friends the other day for transmog gear xD /nostalgia

In the LFR version of Yor'sahj, the green still gives the AOE, and every time I run there's some ignorant twit who insists that they don't have the AOE. Then we have to go through the process of humoring him, almost wiping because of the AOE, and saying we told you so.

Kill order if I remember correctly: purple, green, yellow, red. I still don't understand what purple does but that's mainly because I've only done the raid on my hunter and haven't bothered to look it up.

Oh my god, really? I'll copy/paste you the exact text out of the dungeon journal.

Quote:
10-man: Digestive acid periodically secretes from the stomach lining, dealing 60000 nature damage to a player and nearby allies within 4 yards.
Quote:
LFR Mode: Digestive acid periodically secretes from the stomach lining, dealing 39000 nature damage to a random player.
Do you see the key difference in the description of these abilities?

Also, purple puts a debuff on people, that says "Every 5th time you get a heal or absorb effect on you, you explode for damage to the whole raid" which on 10-man is 50k to the raid, and in LFR is about 35k Still, given the preponderance of things like Pallies using Holy Radiance on big damage phases, purple getting in is basically a wipe.

In Heroic, the priority changes on this and purple is going through pretty much every time it's up. This is only because there's 4 slimes that come out in heroic instead of three and frankly, purple is not all that threatening in comparison to the other color combinations.

Assuming your healers aren't full of fail and derp, that is.

Never understood the big deal about purple. I guess it's hard to get LFR people to not spam heals, but as far as high-end raiding goes it didn't seem all that threatening.

Also ty for the Hagara video. Awesome precision in the lightning phase haha, was cool to see them all line up and have it jump perfectly. Seems like a fun fight, going to be kind of trivialized when guilds have the dps to push it in 3 phases, if you get lightning first it will go so fast. Seems like the lightning phase is a lot less challenging than the ice phase in terms of execution, just needs raw healing.

Also lol at the "exploit" where AMS and Bubble cause the Water Zone debuff to not apply on Hagara and you can just relax in there during the ice phases. Same issue as swimming in the lava, Blizzard programming so fail sometimes.

Relevant to everything:
Race to World First recently became available to watch for free for a short time. It's a documentary about the top guilds and their efforts to go for world first kills each patch/expansion.

i think the whole thread post-cata says otherwise

so I bought wow for $5 with the sale they had and made a character on moon guard...
yeah I got to Goldshire and I was basically appalled by the RP so I cancelled my account the same day

all I'm gonna say is dranaei dick-girls (there were at least 12 people RPing in this and no one was RPing against it so yeah)

I know someone is going to say "you didn't give the game a chance" but the only reason I got wow in the first place was to RP and that was certainly one hell of a first impression

oh well :/

You go to Pornshire on Moon Guard.

As your first thing on an RP server.

lmfao you really didn't give the game a chance did you?
That's like immigrating to the United States and immediately going to the Bronx, punching a gangster in the face, and complaining that Americans are unfriendly when you get shot.
Like seriously there's a WHOLE game out there aside from Moon Guard, maybe try rolling an RP server that's not known for sexual deviants and maybe try going to a place that isn't Goldshire hmm?

Every time you post things from your private server, you get either no response, or a discussion about why private servers are silly, or that you should come play the current endgame.

I mean "Wow, your DPS on a private server in old content where you've had years and years to get that gear, and it's basically been stagnant that whole time, but you find the stagnation fun because you happen to have settled out near the top of it" gets repetitive after the first five times.

It's about the pvp. It isn't any different than logging onto an fps game and playing a death match to me. It doesn't matter if its been out for 5 years because the games are about skill and fighting new people.

I don't care if you don't believe it but there are over 20,000 active people on molten WoW and it is just as lively as a retail wotlk realm.

I'm sorry that you just can't accept that I can have fun on a private blizz-like server. Because you know, that is what games are about. Obviously WoW is a huge waste of time regardless of where and how you play it.

I understand that private servers can be a lot of fun, it's just... not particularly relevant to the thread.
It's as if you are playing a different game.

Because you are lmao, wrath =/= cata
