Re: Can you buy an awesome desktop for 1000 bucks?
If you're a noob you can buy W7, or you can be cool like the rest of the internet and just download it.
The PC build I put up would give you pretty much everything you needed for media play. 25" monitor, blu-ray player, full HDMI support, and it's even remote controlled, so you can kick back on your bed or couch and control it from there. |

@ninjaKIWI
Yeah, yeah. I wasn't aware he was looking at 19" monitors. My definition of an 'Amazing' monitor is something at least 24", which runs $250+. If you're watching movies, you want a really high quality monitor, and big. Also, prices have gone down a lot in the last 4 months, holy ****...

Btw, Zag, when I'm laying down watching movies or shows on my comp I'm laying like 2 feet away from my computer screen, so having a 20 inch screen is perfect.

Re: Can you buy an awesome desktop for 1000 bucks?
That one has a much better motherboard, and utilizes DDR3 memory, which is faster. It doesn't have a blu-ray player though, nor HDMI output so you'd need to buy separately. It's a tradeoff between power and media abilities really. You say you don't really game much, if at all, so I went with something that has a lower power consumption while still being able to be a powerhouse for what it's going to be used for.
If I were to choose, I'd go with your bundle, but I have different uses for computers which require that extra power, so it's really up to you. |

Re: Can you buy an awesome desktop for 1000 bucks?
I already have an HDMI cable, but then the Blu Ray drive would be 70ish bucks.
So would the extra 1xx bucks be worth it to get my package and add a BR drive?

Re: Can you buy an awesome desktop for 1000 bucks?
You still need a graphics card for that package too.
And just having an HDMI cable doesn't mean anything, you still need the card inside your computer that you plug it into. |

I kinda want to get a few of those 25" monitors now haha, those are mad cheap.
Also, the graphics card I put out there is only a suggestion, it's not the most amazing card in the world, so you may or may not want to upgrade on that. It's still fermi based so you shouldn't have any problems unless you go and try and play Crysis or something. |

If you're Canadian, try http://www.newegg.ca/ , my friend in BC bought his last rig there just three or four months ago.

Re: Can you buy an awesome desktop for 1000 bucks?
That board in the combo pack has native HDMI support. Just saying. As far as I know the only CPU that doesn't support integrated video is the intel i5 750 quad.
EnR that combo is pretty much the same except it doesn't have the BLURay included. Last edited by ELRayford; 12-26-2010 at 12:36 PM.. |

All the Arrandale and Clarkdale i5 and i7 have integrated GPUs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Core
Its the *Field and *Town series from intel that do not have the integrated GPU. Last edited by ELRayford; 12-26-2010 at 12:58 PM.. |

Re: Can you buy an awesome desktop for 1000 bucks?
Yes, you'll need to buy Windows 7.
Also, my nephew built an extremely good GAMING rig and it only cost him $1300. Most of it was the keyboard, mouse, speakers, monitor, and graphics card (which you won't need a beastly one.) |
