Hmm I just actually made one song in FL. It sounds nice and all and I had some critique on it but I'm sure there are a lot of things wrong with it. It's my first time using this program... actually, it's my first time creating music period. I looked at some YouTube vids on FL and some hints and tips but they move too fast and don't quite explain things (even though most of the things I messed with I found out for myself).

I found someone willing to teach me the features in FL Studio, thankfully. I generally don't have trouble learning the features of programs.. I was able to figure out Macromedia Flash and animate with that quite easily, same with Adobe Photoshop, but FL Studio is just way too complex, and in a field I don't fully understand yet.
FL isn't really THAT complicated i like ableton myself for a DAW but that one IS complicated

Doesn't Venetian Snares use Renoise? It's too complicated for me. I'd need a manual for it, but it seems pretty powerful if what you can do on that creates crazy songs like Frictional Nevada... if indeed that is what you call a song

I've only gotten used to FL. Automation could be no simpler IMO.

Orion Platinum $199
http://www.synapse-audio.com/

This is the one I use.
A demo is available, its limitations are no saving files and also smaller preset banks on synthesizers.
I definitely suggest this one if you are looking for easy interface.

Yay!
Thank you for this list.
I was hoping to find some good programs to start with.

LOL I'm using that to make a hardcore version of "Mary Had A Little Lamb".

Also, if the list will ever get updated, Psycle is a good program to use for composing mainly dance/techno esque music. It can be used for simple Rock or Classical, too. Plus it's free.

EDIT: I just noticed that Audacity isn't listed. Seriously, what the ****? One of the best free audio editing programs on the Internet.

Doesn't vsnares use renoise? Also Audacity is my favorite freelance audio editor.

There's a fine line between a digital audio editor (Audacity) and a digital audio workstation (what this thread is about).

Anyway, Wavosaur has Audacity beat as an audio editor.
