Nope, this is the perfect argument for it because the learning curve for solo is a lot higher than it is for singles. Check either of the threads I made where I gave out credits to people who posted solo scores. Note that most of the scores were from Patashu's pack. A lot of those files, even though they're suitable for beginners, don't really show new players all of the patterns that solo brings to the table.

Quote:
Someone could say something like "Oh hey I'm not as good at singles as *insert high D6 player here* so I'll take the time to learn a new playstyle to make myself feel better".
Sure, people could use this mentality. And I'm sure some people do. But...

Quote:
That type of mentality can be used for basically anything. "Oh hey guitar is a waste of time because I'm bad at it and I don't want to take the time to learn it, so I'll play guitar hero!"
This make no sense and doesn't tie into this argument at all.

I think it's safe to say that people who hate on solo (like Plan_Bsk, qqwref, etc), have not played it nearly long enough to say stuff like "95% of solo files are bad" or "solo is a waste of time." I assure you, at least 90% of solo files created are good files. Some may seem hard and dumpy at first, but once you get to the skill level needed to play them correctly, they are very fun files. You can literally say the same for 4-key SM/FFR files.

tl;dr people hate on solo because they haven't played more than patashu's beginner pack. Which is not all that great to be honest.

Velo, don't delete that post pls since it actually contains decent feedback and isn't "hurdur"

well it's true haha

but I don't like it because of song choice which is subjective. There are tons of easy files to get people started though.

When Keybeat first started there was a huge solo boom and a large number of people got into it and even made simfiles. It might not be apparent on other parts of this forum, but solo is still quite alive and active.

solo is sucks and dead
more people wanted their files removed from kbo than added, and everyone lost interest in kbo because ffr had a revival
there doesn't need to be any more discussion about this

I don't play solo for fun but I've played around with pattens, legit played through mid level files, watched a whole bunch of higher level solo vids, etc. and I can kinda read the patterns, although I totally lack the muscle memory to get anything decent. Honestly I just find most solo files to be either awkward, overstepped, or boring... many remind me of the denser Icy files, which are really only good for stamina/mash training. The way charts are stepped essentially doesn't mesh with one of the two big reasons I play rhythm games (not that many recent 4key charts do, either). I don't actually hate solo as an idea that much, but I do have zero interest in actually getting good at it, and the constant advertising/hyperbole (not to mention posting of 6key scores with the same banner as famous 4key files) does kinda annoy me. That said, I do have a lot of respect people who are at, say, LongGone's level, and if you enjoy solo I have nothing against you playing it.

tl;dr: solo bores the fuc outta me but if you enjoy it then go ahead

if you played all the older solo files, it's pretty understandable they're all awkward as hell.

newer solo files cater to people who started with 4 key more or less

thanks but I don't think I really mind the discussion. thread would normally be extremely short since there's not a bunch of people who would be interested in this and any kind of discussion would at least give me a bit of insight as to how the people of the community currently feel about various topics

personally, I think there was never and will never be a bad time to release KBO beta. there isn't a single free online rhythm game of this caliber that is 6key, so at the very least KBO will be unique in that regard. and hopefully it will excel in other ways too

I still think you'd have a much better bet working on what the dudes at TS have for 6key mode.

I felt most at home when I was on KBO tbh.

When FFR zombified, it felt awkward, and it seemed like a bunch of people I hadn't heard of came out of nowhere. And the TS people just feel uncomfortable to be around. Ironically, KBO was the engine I preferred least, but no matter what you do, a 6-key advertised engine will always be less accessible than something simpler and well known as finger DDR.

ps I know pretty much nothing when it comes to programming

We have found our programmer, and released a couple of charts in celebration. Head on over to KBO to check them out.
