Necropotence in Dance 2?
(dunno where to put this so since this is about songs I guess this is best place?)
So just kinda curious about how this song was placed in Dance 2. Reason is that it's a touhou arrange, yet it's in Dance 2, but ALL the other touhou arranges (unless I missed something which I probably did, please let me know) are in Arcade, since they are arranges/remixes of songs from the game series. I would think that since Necropotence was an arrange for Necrofantasia in Perfect Cherry Blossom, it'd be in arcade (the song itself even came from a touhou arrange album by t+pazolite).

Re: Necropotence in Dance 2?
I guess people could argue its hardcore/terrorcore touhou and this makes it more dance worthy than arcade worthy
Although there are several other songs that are arguably in the wrong sections (ska cha cha/your my number one, im looking at you guys)

Re: Necropotence in Dance 2?
imo there are too many songs "misplaced" but also really tricky to place seeing as we have a limited range of genre. I'm not sure how it all works really; maybe we could all make a list as to where we would all like each song to go. (excluding: secret, token, legacy, skill token)
Edit: what bothers me mostly is that the entire series of "the games we played" are placed in 'classical'. Why? Just because it's piano? lame.

Re: Necropotence in Dance 2?
or we could ditch genres and just make it alphabetical/sections named after difficulties(which would it a hell of a lot easier to find songs of a certain difficult ythat you're looking for)

Maybe we can just add that in, and also make it so we could find songs by artist as well. or... simfile artist~

Re: Necropotence in Dance 2?
This question has been asked many times, albeit on different songs.
The Arcade genre does NOT refer to every song derived from some sort of game. Songs in the Arcade genre are only for classic games that most people will recognize, as well as 8-bit/chiptune-sounding music (whether or not derived from a game). There are remixes and derivations of songs from games that fit better in a different category; these songs resemble less like game music and more like actual music from their respective genres. That's why The Games We Played is in the Classical genre. Games of lesser known origins generally doesn't warrant being put in the Arcade genre. Just about all Touhou music for instance isn't a real "game classic". In fact, Touhou is largely contained within PC gaming as opposed to an actual console. Touhou might be popular within internet communities, but if you ask someone down the street what Touhou is, that's a joke. That being said, there are several songs that straddle the line of "a classic game", or fits better into a different category, etc. For instance, you can argue they may belong equally well in the Arcade genre or the Rock genre. In these cases, it's a matter of balancing out the number of songs in FFR's limited number of categories (that's why the Funk genre is now filled with jazz music - otherwise that genre would be extremely small). Finally, the Arcade genre has yet to be fully sorted out. There ARE songs that need to be moved around. On a general note, FFR's official genre categories need to be revamped in a future engine release. We've kept the same genres since the game's inception, but now that the game features many more songs of a wider variety of genres, this needs to change. The current categories simply cannot represent all of the songs we have accurately. I would actually like to remove the Arcade category altogether in favor of putting them in proper music genres. Then we wouldn't have to deal with the additional task of determining what song derives from a game. It's no fault of Synthlight for the lack of foresight into a problem like this. Re: Necropotence in Dance 2?
Probably a reason why nothing in the genre department has changed yet is simply preserving tradition and the fear of breaking that sort of familiarity to old-time users or new players who typically use the genre wheel.
I still think though it's time to change the genres (they should just call them "categories") altogether. |

Like said, genre should be re-organized when graphical/functional update of the engine is done. And basically "Arcade" can't co-exist nicely with genres that represent the style of the song, not the origins.

Re: Necropotence in Dance 2?
How about 0 (Piano Version) being in Misc rather then Classical. IMO that is a complete joke.
