We can only hope.

SEA somehow got their hands on it. They're butchering it pretty hard.

I'll likely play the translated version regardless of how long it takes to come out and how far behing it is in content.

Beta? I won't believe it until I see it in a final release. I'm going to hope they have a QA process for that kind of thing.

Shitty translations and content aside, it's better to play on jp because some EQ's require good groups to actually get something done, and well.... every time I get an english speaking group it never ends well.

This
definitely THIS

here's an example of a normal run with JP that i did in PSU JP vers.
and you usually don't get this with American/English players.
they're just that good to work with.

To be honest, I understand where Izzy is coming from.

The Japanese version has one huge barrier, the region.
For those that have trouble understanding the language and are not in Japan, the game requires you to; rely on the 'unofficial' translation accuracy of others (use of translation programs were announced as illegal by Sega, and justifies the termination of your account), wait for information release, deal with extreme timezone changes, go through foreign payment processes, trust your account to a foreign company (Nexon is a good example of a company that after 4-5 years of service, banned foreign players), suffer damages by being unable to use their customer support systems, and have a hard time being able to relate to the majority of the player base (which is perhaps the most important aspect of them all).

I've played foreign MMORPGs for years, some being within the Japan region. It does hold a player back.

It requires an unbelievable amount of dedication. It often leads to a small, elitest foreign player base. Not only would one be limited to who they play with, but those they choose to play with might not be as enjoyable to be around than others which could be found in local games.

If you don't believe me, then think back at the lobby room that's full of weeaboos. I forget the lobby number. I specifically remember the FFR guild pointing out to never go there, and I wonder why.

The barrier affects one's understanding of their surroundings, and ultimately their reflexes for decision making. Those Japanese players who are being praised only seem like better players because they are in an environment that's familiar to them. The belief of Japanese players being better than American players is nothing more than a situational illusion.

This is the reason why I could never stick to foreign MMORPGs.
I always end up being left by myself in a world full of people I cannot fully relate to, or event make the attempt.

A North American release of PSO2 would be nice.
Sure, we all know that NA Sega wouldn't be able to hold their ground for long if they did. The game would be shut down in a few years.

However, it's a nice dream. Izzy isn't wrong.

the translations are better than any official translation sega has ever done

they are well known for being absolutely HORRENDOUS at translating anything (esp. french translation in sonic adventure 2 holy FUCK)

there are enough english speakers in the jp servers and if you're polite the japanese often don't mind communicating with very basic english to help you out. aside from the mentality of the players from different cultures there is literally NO advantage to playing a north american version of the game. it'll die faster and lose support, it'll have very few updates compared to its japanese counterpart (level caps, new levels, items, events, etc.) and I honestly don't feel like playing an anemic 2 year late version of phantasy star just so I can hear its awkward voice acting and a complete plethora of b20 weaboo autistic sonic furfags spamming awkward and tragically unfunny picture arts everywhere in game.

The only reason I would care to play pso2 is for the fun casual and social experience. Not to mention the latency issues and hurdles you have to go through to give them money for in game credits or subscriptions. It just isn't worth the effort for me to play on the Japanese servers when I can just play something else and have fun doing that.

On an entire server of English speakers there will still be a percentage of them that are more capable at playing games then the rest and those are the people you would try and have in a guild.

Also I'm pretty sure PSU NA shut down at the same time as PSU JP.

Understood.

However PSU NA is independently run by a completely different company.

PSU NA closed down because of its lack of service and people playing, due to its huge failure in bringing promised content which was delayed for months every freaking time, Zak can relate to this.
PSU JP closed down because it was only to force people to play/move to PSO2 at the time of its release, and at that time, there were MANY many people still playing this game.

Again, just to clarify, SoJ (Sega of Japan) and SoA (Sega of America) are two completely different companies.
SoJ rules over SoA when it comes to content and localization.
SoA needs permission from SoJ to release content so before translating or localizing any patch, and if SoJ does not allow SoA to release any patch or content, then SoA cannot operate, people get mad. That's what happened to PSU NA.
The key line is:
If SoA releases anything from SoJ's content without permission, SoJ has the right to close down their server completely.
This is why they were 2 1/2 years behind in patches.
That's what's going to happen and everything's going to be so boring when there are no patches for quite a while, unless they completely come up with their own content.
....
....
....
Unless you're superbly bored, you're going to deal with that xenophobic attitude from SoJ if they wanted to release whatever SoJ releases.
