System which links to user profiles
The entire system used to link to user profiles given their names is busted. It's messed up by all the special characters that can be used in user names but not in URL's an example was when I was trying to link to the profile of one "Token#10" (for obvious reasons). Every attempt causes the browser to parse the url as /Token/#10/ because the page fails to generate the proper link which is http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/...e/Token%%2310/
Someone should work on that and fix other similar url generation errors. |

Re: System which links to user profiles
double posting for this one.
currently browsers send in "/" instead of "#" so we basically cannot currently support # in usernames. Trying to get it so its not supported as a character when creating an account. |

Re: System which links to user profiles
that works I guess. I would have thought there was a unicode character that you could translated it to like %23 or something. I'm presuming you haven't neglected to consider that though.

Re: System which links to user profiles
wait no, that works, http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/profile/Token%2310/ now works - you must have fixed it. Now you just need to be sure that when you do a search for say Token, and it returns the results Token#10, that the link reads http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/profile/Token%2310/ and not http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/profile/Token#10/
Example, click here: http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/profile/Token_/ now click one of the links with token#10 in it, or another special character. Note that the generated link is wrong. Also, a search for Token#10 using the search system (http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/...ser=Token%2310) doesn't work because of the query not searching with the proper special character. Re: System which links to user profiles
Hmm, this error is complicated further. If you are on the profile of, say, Token#10, and you submit a comment, it will post your comment but then take you to the profile of Token

Re: System which links to user profiles
Yeah, seems like it pops up all over the place. Check that other characters are alright (\, /, ?, ...). I think that's the only one I looked at...

Re: System which links to user profiles
This most definitely isn't the garbage bin.
I've seen some profiles with exclamation marks and they haven't been a problem. They are valid in the url. I was mostly thinking of php and html reserved characters. |

Re: System which links to user profiles
Basically every character that's supposed to be url encoded, should be.
The ! character shouldn't cause problems. Edit: ! is an unreserved character. ( http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2396.txt ) Last edited by Summerschool; 08-14-2007 at 02:32 AM.. |
