DeVouR [86 or 87]
Statistics:
DeVouR Release Date:11-23-09 Song Length: 2:07 Number of AAAs: 3 Number of FCs: 144 Number of Players: 2,523 DeVouR has less than 9 (raw) SDGs (I can't specifically check since I'm not a veteran and I can't see specific stats) Compared to another 86: Chik Habit Difficulty: 86 Release Date: 05-27-11 Song Length: 2:42 Number of AAAs: 4 Number of FCs: 81 Number of Players: 572 Chik Habit has 12 SDGs and 4 AAAs. It has more AAAs/SDGs than DeVouR, It also has half of DeVouR's FCs but it has 4-5 times less players than DeVouR. Compared to other 87s: Schmollbluk Release Date: 03-15-09 Song Length: 2:18 Number of AAAs: 2 Number of FCs: 237 Number of Players: 4,817 Schmollbluk has 17 SDGs. It's almost double the amount of SDGs in DeVouR, while having twice the amount of players. Slashmaid (Instrumental) Release Date: 12-20-11 Song Length: 3:00 Number of AAAs: 4 Number of FCs: 34 Number of Players: 1,033 Slashmaid has 11 SDGs (More than the amount of SDGs DeVouR has) and has 4 AAAs (More AAAs DeVouR has), despite having 4 times less the amount of players compared to DeVouR. DeVouR is a file that's quite easy to FC. Probably 86 material. However, it is really difficult to score on, resulting in a low amount of SDGs. The file is very sporadic overall, there are rollish bursts everywhere and chances are you're probably going to mess up one of the bursts on an average run. For example, the rolls + jack combo which is 260-520 notes in are 400 BPM 16ths and if you're not fast enough and you try to hit it as it is, chances are you're going to hit the down/up jack late and good rush. Using Mirror wouldn't work since there are both 123422 parts and 432133 parts. There are other bursts which when you use Mirror, it wouldn't work since there are both its non-mirror and mirror counterpart in that file. To sum it all up, I think DeVouR is an 87 despite being easy to FC compared to other 87s, it's much more difficult to score on compared to other 86s since there are more spots that you would have trouble with compared to others. Those trouble spots should give DeVouR a bump in my opinion. Last edited by EzExZeRo7497; 06-8-2012 at 11:58 AM.. |

Re: DeVouR [86 or 87]
does the difference between 86 and 87 really have much significance? Instead of 1/13, it's 1/100... especially since these 100-ratings will eventually segue into 20s.
edit: both 86 and 87 are under difficulty 18 Last edited by MikeShinoda12345; 06-8-2012 at 09:53 AM.. |

From past experiences I remember Devour being rather messy to SDG as you stated and wouldn't mind seeing it moved up. |

Re: DeVouR [86 or 87]
DeVour actually has 11 sdgs but I agree with it being moved up to 87 (until the new 1-20 scale is introduced)

Re: DeVouR [86 or 87]
@bob, the 1-20 scale is based off the 1-99 scale. Though yea, 86/87 will both fall under the same difficulty on the 1-20 scale, the 1-99 scale is always going to be there regardless of some lower scale for ingame use.
need to actually compare these a bit more hold on ill update this. i'd say it's mostly comparable with schmollbluk considering the dates added (which is heavily influential on the rest of the stats [which also really confuses me as the the number of unique players on those 2 files but idk]). ill probs make a new post i gotta go out right now Last edited by [TeRa]; 06-8-2012 at 11:58 AM.. |

Re: DeVouR [86 or 87]
Chik Habit might be the worst of the 86 bunch to compare DeVouR to statistically, as it'd probably be around the 83 level if it weren't for that wall (i.e. Chik Habit's only an 86 because of a spike in difficulty, along with Scarhand). You must also consider that Slashmaid was a tournament file and would probably have less AAAs to its name had it just been a regular release (lol at least one less for sure, leonid would've never played it lmao)
Compared to the other 86s from a statistical standpoint (I'll exclude Rain due to how recently it was released), Here We Go has 3 AAAs and 9 SDGs (less players obviously due to token song but more times played than DeVouR), and RWoB has 3 AAAs and 12 SDGs (more players and more times played as well). DeVouR seems to fit well within the subgroup when looking at it from that perspective. Also, every file in the 87 subgroup tests multiple skills within the file itself, whereas DeVouR's difficulty comes from mostly 1234 and 4321 rolls (albeit some of them being frame fucced). I still believe the hardest sections presented in files within the 87 subgroup justify their notch up one difficulty, although that's a subjective argument to make. Just offering some insight as to why it was initially placed as an 86, I have no problem with changing it if the vast majority of the community thinks otherwise. Also Eze (as the first to post a [N or N+1] thread since the difficulty shift), thank you for constructing an OP with a good amount of support for the shift. Hoping to see all future threads from other members constructed in the same manner. Last edited by One Winged Angel; 06-8-2012 at 01:24 PM.. |

Re: DeVouR [86 or 87]
I actually have more issues with hitting the part after those roll-jack combos, though I do get a few CBs in that part as well without mashing. You know, it looks like a 16th anchor stream, but you have orange instead of yellow? Yeah. That's rough, but come on, this is Xander we're talking about. If Bmah is the master of awkward, Xander is the master of technical.
I'm going to argue 86 on this due to the lack of any significant difficulty spike in the file. If you have the speed for it, you have the speed for it.

Re: DeVouR [86 or 87]
This chart is so ballsy awkward I'd almost have to say make it an 88 because of that alone.
But to be honest I think this chart might have so little aaas on it because of said awkwardness. I'm all for bumping it up, but my question will be more of, since this chart is older, are there any massive framers in the chart worth noting? If yes, probably should bump it up to 88. If no bump it to 87. In fact that makes me curious of how many fgos have nasty little framers hidden in them... Last edited by Xx{Midnight}xX; 06-8-2012 at 02:19 PM.. |

Re: DeVouR [86 or 87]
Since 200bpm 32nds = 400bpm 16ths (less than 450bpm which = even one frame intervals between 16ths), there are a few occasional two frame gaps within the rolls, most notably in the longer roll wall at the beginning of the file and the reverse wall at the end.
Definitely nothing bad enough to warrant a bump to 88 though Last edited by One Winged Angel; 06-8-2012 at 02:28 PM.. |

Re: DeVouR [86 or 87]
Before I start, I'd like to say that this file is ASS to AAA. ASS.
Actually doing the big walls without jumptrilling takes a tremendous amount of control and the 32nd gallop section with constant 8ths also requires a lot of control as well. If there's anything about DeVouR, it's about control. The amount of traps it has certainly does justify a bump, since both nonmirror and mirror make certain parts worse. |

Re: DeVouR [86 or 87]
This file has been an absolute nightmare for me, for multiple reasons. In addition to the sync playing poorly no matter what offset I use, the frame discrepancies cause me problems in the longer rolls. There's also so many ways to hit extra notes in this chart, like the five note 32nd bursts with tough patterns, or the bursts with a jump on the start and end of them...
...definitely supporting a change to 87 on this. |

Re: DeVouR [86 or 87]
I personally think Devour is an 87 and Slashmaid is an 88. I feel like all of the level 88 songs compare to slashmaid more then any of the 87 songs and I feel like Devour is just way to ridiculous to be 86. I have a bunch of songs I could sdg with my skill level that are level 86 if I was warmed up. The same doesn't apply to devour, my 40 goods on that song was my best run I got recently. I know your not supposed to compare the songs related to your skill level but I feel like I'm saying this without being biased as well.

Re: DeVouR [86 or 87]
After discussing between the other game managers and our diff consultants we've agreed to bumping this from 86 -> 87. This thread will remain open for 7 days before being locked, if anyone feels differently about this decision, please make it known within that time as the move would become permanent and a new thread would need to be created to change it back.
Thanks for the great thread guys, a good example of how these things should happen~ |
