Re: Official Tier Point System Thread
No offense, I have to throw my simple 2 cents in. Making it so a limited amount of people on FFR can actually earn TP's until the lesser skilled people become "great" at this game, doesn't seem to fair.
I do like the idea, but I had to throw that in.

Re: Official Tier Point System Thread
I agree with MrMagic. Tier Points were hard enough as they were. Increasing their difficulty just makes it harder on the people who actually NEED the feeling of accomplishment by earing things such as tokens (don't make an FGO AAA token) and tier points (why make it harder than it already was?)
Just because the people who are good at this game might be the only ones suggesting things like this, doesn't mean they should all be implemented. <.1% of the players shouldn't be allowed to speak for >99.9% of the players. Idk about you guys, but I would love to have less of an elite club, and more of a supportive community that tailors not only to the extraordinary players, but to those who are still learning. This is not the way to go about it. tl;dr: Making TPs ridiculously hard makes noobs quit. 2 cents.

Re: Official Tier Point System Thread
Oops, 2 cents coming.
Just recently, I earned my first TP with the FC for For FFR (yea, odd first TP to get). Shortly afterwards that day, I got HELLBEAT FC (I think) too. Now that the new change has come, not only did I lose those TP's that I had earned, I have 1 now that I didn't even play/earn (krunky had played on my account without knowing once, that's why my Magical 8bit Tour score is better than my ability) and pretty much all of them are out of my reach again. And I thought I was finally able to earn myself some. Oops. /end 2 cents.

Re: Official Tier Point System Thread
Tier points have always been and should remain for the upper skilled players. It has never been an issue with lower skilled players before, why is it now they are feeling everything is unfair and that their needs to be two of everything now on this site. Lower skill players need to stop looking up to the pro players and discouraging themselves from doing better, that makes no sense why they do that. We already had to pointlessly separate the scores threads because these people lack they attention they feed off of, now we need to start separating all the stats, screw that. lol.

Re: Official Tier Point System Thread
Originally, we just wanted this update to support 10+ requirements but since it didn't we thought about just lower each song by 2 points so that it would allow us to support those requirements in a way but it backfired.

Re: Official Tier Point System Thread
If I were making a tier point system I would take every song that is difficulty 7 or above and give the amount of points of the songs difficulty for a AAA on that song. An fgo would be 12 points for the AAA etc. It would scale down on points based on raw score instead of combo based scoring because that is just stupid.

My system allows a bit more diversity in difficulty (the 1 TP on a high VC can be much easier than the 1 TP on a high FGO, which is itself much easier than the 8 TP on a high FGO), so the "first TP" barrier can be set as low as it was before, while still providing challenge to the local guru AAAers.

Re: Official Tier Point System Thread
I thought I was finally peeking into the "upper skilled players" rank, considering I'm at a 1245 average rank and I've been AAAing more songs than I ever have, but obviously I was wrong. I started getting tier points that were FAR beyond my reach a few years ago, and now that practice was starting to pay off, they made the requirements that much harder.
Personally, I'm not asking for a separate tier system for lower players, because not only would that get confusing, but it's slightly pointless. I don't see what was wrong with the tier point system before, to be honest. Yea, maybe it should have been extended a little bit due to the growing amount of higher level songs being stepped, but taking out the tier points for level 10's and the like shouldn't have happened. Yes, I did just see For FFR is up there again, I don't need this pointed out now XD oops. Also, I do disagree with token songs having tier points, as igotrhythm had mentioned. If the tier point system keeps going like this, I'm never going to bother with them again because it's stupid to have changed it in the first place.

Re: Official Tier Point System Thread
Basing everything by raw score is what SHOULD happen but according to velocity, he said that it was "impossible" because raw score isn't saved in the database.

Re: Official Tier Point System Thread
But combo score plus max combo is saved. Getting the raw score back out of it is a simple calculation.

Re: Official Tier Point System Thread
I've actually been considering saying something for a while about this now. Why is it that tiers are only for high level players? I mean isn't the point of tiers is to move up as you improve? Honestly I think tier points should be achievable by pretty much everyone and as you get better and better you move up in tiers. This way no one is excluded and the top level players can still have their tier 0 to feel good about and other players can feel they've accomplished something by moving up in tiers.
Just my thoughts on it. |

Re: Official Tier Point System Thread
I would love to see a system that wasn't so combo based, but just using raw score is stupid. What's the point in getting a combo if it's just going to be raw score?
EDIT: Kayla hit it 100% on the nose. Nobody deserves to be excluded, and there's no need for a super elite players club.

Re: Official Tier Point System Thread
Hmm... this is just a thought, and might get a little too complicated, but how about we have mini lists of tier points and stuff. In other words, everyone starts at the lowest tier level, and try to accomplish certain requirements and accumulate enough points to upgrade their tier level. For example, we all start with a list of 9's and easier 10's for the lowest tier, and try to obtain let's say 100 points? Once you get your 100 points, you go up one tier and then there are newer requirements to further upgrade your tier, maybe songs like harder 10's and easier 11's. etc. That way, everyone will get at least one tier point, whether you are pro or not. Also, it'll rank people accurately in terms of tiers.
The only downside is that it may get too complicated. It might encourage other people including myself, to play lower level songs. Just a suggestion. Last edited by iironiic; 12-10-2010 at 11:22 PM.. |

Re: Official Tier Point System Thread
I knew from the get-go that no one was going to like this tier list because it reduces the amount of points that are going to be obtained by even the best players, and it still doesn't include the lower level players who deserve to be added. I'd be willing to help with a newly-designed tier list, but like I said, I'm sure my idea will be passed over. I'm also extremely close to making a rant thread about how certain things are being run on this site, because I'm also quite sick and tired of those who are extremely active in the game not getting their words heard. These people mean a HELL of a lot more than the "elite" players. |

Re: Official Tier Point System Thread
I do too, visible plateaus are always a good thing, so you can actually measure that you're getting better.

Maybe we don't have to go really low, like "all players can get tier points" but there must be a way that people like myself that are decent in the game don't find getting tier points impossible or stupidly hard.

Re: Official Tier Point System Thread
Everyone is putting their 2 cents in why not...
I like the tier system.... I know I'll get hated on, but put it this way, if you take away the tier system so everyone could be one gigantic community what does that do for the veterans and pros at this game now? I've been playing this game for well over 5 years... The tier system gives me a reason to actually WANT to get better. Personally, I would keep the tier system the way it is but not change it so often. Only change it to where you want to ADD something to it, not erase and redo it completely. I understand if a level of a song is decreased or increased ( IE GoSW turns to a VC somehow, it's still a HIGH VC so just change the difficulty from persay 5 to 4 ... ) Don't take it away completely because it IS in fact a part of the system that was designed. Also, and I know this was mentioned, but why don't we have a 3 prong structure Tier Point system. This would entail Tier Points from 1-6 for the beginners and 7-low10 for Intermediates and high10-13 for Gurus... I think this would be sufficient enough. I just threw that together in about 2 seconds from off the top of my head, personally, I could throw an entire tier sheet together if needed to show you. But, for instance, Free Space could be ONE TP. Since it is a level 1 give it 1 tier point. Don't give a tier point for the level of difficulty no no no, not like 13 for RATO or 10 for Feldschlatt, but make it interesting .... You can have a 4 or 5 prong tier structure, again its up to you guys. Don't take away from the community and higher players, but add in for the lower skilled players and mid skilled to bring them something new to the table as well. I'm sure it wouldn't take long at all to bring up.... /2cents |
