After reading my reviews, I'm definitely definitely going to cut Synchronized Hearts. Very happy that it got in on the strength of its unique feel and I'm totally going to do it justice by making a good cut and the changes listed.
Stoked that the Shnabubula files got a good reception. (Wood Man from this batch and Double Dragon Title from the other batch)
Champion's Horizon also received a fair number of "pls cut this song" comments so I will look into doing that as well. There are definitely parts that I feel the file would be fine without. I might have to ask someone very skilled at cutting to see if they can make magic happen. But I'm happy people enjoyed it!

Seems like there were some extremely polarizing files this time around.
If you had a very split rating, you have to remember that you'll never please everyone. If a file was good enough to get accepted on the strength of 3 strong reviews over one low one, then the file obviously has enough of an audience that it will be enjoyed by many people. And you can be proud of that.

But let's stop becoming obsessive with shaving off every change in difficulty and instead bring out consistency along with variation.
I agree with this. Consistency doesn't mean THE EXACT SAME, it means that the file follows a logical structure. "Logical structures" can be really big in scope- for example, pad files have a certain set of rules that govern everything you do in the file, versus making a micro-level choice of whether to mirror a particular pattern or not.

It's a fine balance, and one person's gut feeling of "consistent" is different from another's. That's why we have 4 judges per file.

I'll go over your notes and what not over the next few days, that's weird lol

Also I find it pretty shocking that my AFO,OFA file went through resubmission twice while changing everything judges suggested, then gets rejected on the third time.

Like, come on guys. That's just fucking stupid.

EDIT: @Hi19 all files had the .sm that you judged?? I guess it didn't get handed off properly to you, because in my sent mail it defiantly went through
EDIT2: I'm wondering if you judged an older version of the file, or if everyone judged an incorrect version

I would have cut Synchronized Hearts before resubmitting but I had basically no time to work on it so I didn't. Rest assured I will.
I will also definitely try to cut Super Mario Theme, but it's actually really hard to cut nicely because of how the song is structured. I want to shave like a minute off the end of it though.

The other three songs were definitely long, but I only submit long songs if I think they have enough variation to stay interesting the whole way.
Certainly the Shnabubula ones do, they're not getting cut.
I'll look into cutting Champion's Horizon because I agree it drags a little in the last part, but I don't want to fuck up how nice the flow of the song is with my cut so I'm going to be careful about it.

Honestly I usually don't submit many long files. Full Mast was my first marathon.
It just so happened I finished a bunch more of them at the same time. Sorry :P

We need more good long files anyways.

Edit: A thought just occurred to me actually. If I use SM5 to sync a song using the time signature changes feature, do we know if the converter can handle that? I'm nearly done syncing Viridian by Between the Buried and Me and this is how I'm going about syncing it (as honestly it feels a lot easier to me to do this. It's weird, I keep getting it where it's an 8th earlier than it should be but fixing it is proving to be a living hell.)

I also guess I'm asking because of the whole "no stops" rule if this kinda falls into that weird category of things we shouldn't do.

Time signatures might be an issue if they are x/8 as opposed to x/4. If you structure a time signature that is intended to alleviate a BNS running through its normal pace, the converter might ignore it. That's why it's probably better if you explicitly handle the time signature change by proportioning the BPM.

x/4 signatures would likely be ignored as well, but no one playing your song on FFR is going to notice the difference of 5/4 and 4/4 because at the end of the day, it's still colored as 4th.

Glad Alive made it through, I wasn't sure it would. Especially realizing some mistakes after sending it lol. Haven't read up on the notes yet but I do intend on fixing some stuff up in it.

It has spots that go to 6 / 8. So yeah I probably should do something else with it. I'm glad I asked before I spent a few hours fixing the sync on it by hand and charting it lol. (Which I'll have to do anyways wooo!)

If possible you should add that to the OP so that way it won't come up again

not sure how important it is to mention it since time signatures have been removed in more recent builds of sm5

You should be able to change 6/8 into a 3/4 time signature (6 eighth notes when 8 eighth notes makes a measure is the same in 3/4 or 6/8). If the tempo is the same, you should be able to leave it the same.
