ya the loot system needs some major TLC but I don't think it's a total wash. I like the way the orb currency makes white items useful, at least.

I may start a rampage character because that league looks like more fun but i'm really really fond of hardcore modes in these games so idk if I'll stick with it too long

Yea beyond content is pretty shit mostly because there is no incentive to interact with the content in any way. When we were leveling at the start of the league in ledge/sarn or whatever if we spawned a pack of beyond mobs we literally just logged out and made a new instance and continued farming. Probably logged out over 200 times in the first 2 days. I think the reason they didn't give beyond mobs good loot tables initially is because they wanted to avoid high level players grouping mobs together in low zones and aoeing down bosses for tons of rares to sell for alterations. This is logically sound, but what they could have done is given beyond packs/bosses insane xp rewards so at least you have the option to do some risk assessment and determine whether or not the pack you just spawned is worth the xp given the time/danger. This wouldn't be game-breaking or abuse-able. It would give twinked out characters an easier time leveling but realistically that's supposed to be the case anyhow. Tl;dr got to 90 by logging out when beyond packs spawned.

They also stated that they wanted the content of beyond to be player initiated, probably given the catastrophe that was the start of invasion, and yet they made beyond packs spawn instantly rather than giving them a 2-3 second summoning animation that would allow you to choose whether or not to initiate combat with them. There are already a number of people who have died in top 50 due to beyond packs with reflect spawning in the middle of large rooms being aoe'd. I don't really consider that to be player initiated content.

In mapping/end game regular beyond packs are still non-interactive content (unless you die to reflect or a pack of beyond corpse exploders spawns instantly after you kill a boss and detonate it on your head). They are functionally no different from other mobs and whether or not they spawn is essentially irrelevant. Most groups with good clear speed will kill them before they get out of the ground. So they go from being ignored via log out to dying before they can even hit you.

Initially I thought you would intentionally summon bosses in end game maps for super loots and more importantly to give you an extra buffer for map drops in order to sustain map pools. Bosses originally had terrible loot tables and would drop 6-7 white items even in high level maps but there was some pretty major disgust in the community and they were given reasonable tables. Summoning a boss in a 77 map will give you about the same amount of loot as the map boss itself. It's still too little given the risk and time associated with summoning and killing them. Since the mapping meta has shifted from conservative builds and large currency investment into single maps to guarantee a sustainable map pool to literally yolo builds quicksilver/vaal hasting through blue courtyards in 8 minutes and just buying maps if you run out, there's no reason to attempt to farm beyond bosses for the extra map chances. So not only are people generally running builds that skate the edge of survivability given minimal damage mods on maps, beyond bosses also have no incentive to be summoned purposefully. Perhaps if they had loot tables 2-3 times their current size and/or had incredibly high map drop rates, like 50% for a +0, then players would consider whether or not given their current resources it was worth summoning a boss for the rewards.

I and others have relayed these opinions directly to GGG staff but their official reply is "ok but we disagree". Whether or not they actually believe that I don't know. Untimely friction is right in that they are focusing their efforts into the expansion and new content and as a result the content of current leagues is very underwhelming. A lot of game balance and economy is getting fubar'd as well without any visible effort to fix it. My guess is they are just rebalancing everything for the new content and until then everything is gonna be fucked. Realistically from their point of view there isn't much point in expending effort into rebalancing current content when you are just going to do it again in a few months anyway. This is understandable.

Honestly I think the loot system is fantastic. Everything at any stage of the game has value or worth in some way and any player can make a ton of currency just by playing the game regardless of what level they are or how much time they invest into the game. Obviously if you get lucky you can make a ton of money from good drops/lucky 6links but once you adapt a method of stable income luck is entirely irrelevant to your wealth. If anything the only issue with the loot system is that there is just so much to know and that knowledge is so important in efficiently converting drops into currency that most players will never understand even a tenth of what there is to the game. This and the 4 tab starting set. For as much as GGG states that the game is in no way pay2win stash tabs = pay 2 win.

There are other things to be critical about as well but until the next expansion comes out there's not much point in talking about them (master crafting... lol), particularly on the ffr forums. Not to mention for as much as they do wrong or make mistakes they do so many other things right. Poe is a gr9 game but requires an insane amount of game knowledge to really appreciate. Honestly I don't know how/why people who casually play the game think it's good at all.

I like it because it's like if Diablo 3 was actually difficult and less streamlined

i've never even gotten to the map part of the game lmao, my highest ever level was like 58 or somewhere around there before I died, mostly because I'm terrible at these games but partially because I haven't had decent internet in years

I use lightning warp to get away from strongboxes right after activating them, you know, set the marker then activate the box?

i can't figure out what some of the bloodline mods do yet (otherworldly?) but it's sooooo much better than beyond.

except for phylactic bond which is just super dumb and pointless

it's like a 75% damage reduction when they are dark and smokey or something

definitely better than beyond so far but the last round of nerfs make it pretty apparent GGG still doesn't realize that it's not that the game is too easy

it's that the relative return on investment associated with any risk taking is so low that there's no reason to do anything hard

not really sure how bloodlines playout in endgame yet but it kinda feels like nemesis but with blue packs which is kinda meh insofar as the amount that it affects your gameplay and decision making other than "oh this blue pack is slightly more dangerous than it would have been otherwise"

used an orb of alchemy on a normal strongbox, I think it gave it 1000% increased rarity or something so I puushed a screenshot and then the game crashed fucking khjflg;aksjhlsekjrh
