Nah, it still follows the general submission rules. There's just too much to go through to make exceptions. It can go in the open batch though and if we're still stuck with empty slots be possibly pulled and considered.

Judge: TC_Halogen

Eine Kleine Funkmusikk (M0nkeyz) [7.5/10]
Song Artist: Teetow -- Perms: OK (Creative Commons)

- 2.692: missing jump for kick?
- 11.332: this jump’s out of place since there’s no kick here - if you’re following the heavier bass on top of what you were already following, then you’re missing notes at 10.852, 12.652, (etc).
- 12.292/12.772: missing jump for kick?
- 26.272: missing 32nd note
- 33.412: move to [DR] for better pitch relevance (you actually do this properly on your first instance!)
- 35.092: technically a missing jump for snare
- 56.212/56.452: use two different jumps here; the most prominent instrument on the soundscape doesn’t repeat, so it seems weird to have them
- 57.892: definitely get the purpose of what you did here, but minijacks are not a proper application here
- 1:03.292/1:04.012/(etc): missing jump
- 1:06.772 to 1:29.812: a fair amount of this is copy/pasted from the first instance (probably around 40-50% of it), and structural issues with missing jumps appear to hold true a second time as a result
- 1:29.572: missing jump here as well
- 1:44.922: this flourish is arguably accurate if you’re trying to catch the organ that tries to fade in here, but a wiser decision might be to accent the percussion that transitions into this section (if you do that, this rhythm will need to change)
- 1:45.292: I can definitely see the pitch relevance to the bass on the 16ths, but the jumps creating minijacks is a bit of a strange structural choice given that a bit later, those minijacks disappear… it is sensibly placed because it acts as a bridging accent between the kicks/snares being a 16th apart -- but again, it kinda disappears very soon (1:49.372)
- 1:52.132: accent that organ!
- 1:58.612: improve the PR here, you’re in a melody-accented section, definitely give it the attention it deserves
- 2:03.832: missing 32nd here
- 2:04.742: ahaha, love this
- I feel like this chart is technically just a touch outside of acceptable; however, the effort put into making this super enjoyable for mid-level players really deserves commendation here and I feel like this is a nice addition to the OT, despite having some errors at times

Jump Up, Super Star! (TLT Remix) (gold stinger) [7.5/10]
Song Artist: The Living Tombstone -- Perms: OK

- 23.160: purple is technically the right color, but why are you pushing it back so much here?
- 42.314: when reducing rhythms, it should be something that is sensible to the player who might not be the most rhythmically inclined -- I don’t think this choice of reduction is quite good with the respect to the music
- for the chorus(es): if the aim is to accent the vocals, I think the jumps should be removed aside from the initial crash that starts the section, because your deliverance in avoiding consecutive 16ths places precedence on the jumps and avoids certain key notes in the vocal line (46.983, 49.336, etc)
- 1:12.424: consecutive 16ths are a thing?
- some choices in rhythmic reduction are questionable, but the chart generally delivers
- highly approachable, hopefully usable since it’s a bit easy

Pizza Hat (M0nkeyz) [7/10]
Song Artist: Teetow -- Perms: OK (Creative Commons)

- jump usage feels a bit inconsistent at times
- pitch relevance as a whole can be improved
- 24ths/64ths swing seems to inconsistently go in and out, but it’s not really a big deal
- 1:17.636: this feels like an improper song cut, but I’m not certain
- overall, this chart feels right to play; unfortunately, it’s also a bit draggy because in general, the pace doesn’t change too much
- file’s alright - I do appreciate the approach and rhythms are basically perfect from start to finish on the finer details, but I feel like it could use a bit more variation both in patterns and structure

vibe (Qrrbrbirbel) [6/10]
Song Artist: Holly Waxwing -- Perms: OK (self-provided)

- rhythmically, this file is accurate
- 16.620: the last few white notes here feel a bit strange
- this file is an absolute mess, but not because it’s a lot of errors -- the structure lacks restraint and literally does everything it can to accent -literally- everything while subsequently avoiding layering
- the file gets a bit convoluted at times because there are a lot of seemingly insignificant 192nd flams that really don’t deserve the attention compared to the rest of the structure (36.124, 38.267, 39.933, etc). The things for the clicks and the 96th three note blips make sense and I understand the approach.
- 32nd jacks or any equivalents are 252 BPM 16ths, no thank you
- 1:12.790/1:13.981: yikes
- 1:16.719: these anchors are neat, but there’s an unaccommodated sample at the termination points (1:17.314/1:21.124/1:24.933)
- this file has potential to be very unique, but it needs some more structural control

Where’s Bill (mi40) [6/10]
Song Artist: Venetian Snares -- Perms: OK

- 8.454: ghost note
- 18.749: jump should be delayed slightly
- 28.022: given that you’re not accenting any of the other notes like this here, this single U stands out like a sore thumb
- 39.545: missing note
- 41.454/41.726: missing notes for vocal samples
- 58.431: accuracy on color trills could be a bit better
- 1:02.795: not sure what’s audible here for a jump
- 1:23.522: kinda like 18.340 (where you do this nicely), there’s different tones in the buzzing here, so you should be kinda playing around with inversions/spins on top of the rolls to keep the motion the same but the visual different (most people are going to be jumptrilling this)
- 1:25.772: there’s four pronounced differentiated kicks in this sequence, so I believe a jump should be added here
- 1:59.522: incorrect rhythm
- 2:01.158: check these rhythms as well
- 2:16.704/2:16.840: these should likely be singles to better accompany the jumps immediately before, since the sound you’re following here is all alone and cut off as well
- 2:24.749: ghost notes
- 2:39.954: missing note for synth
- 3:27.067: should be a different triple if we’re paying attention to the distorted synths
- 3:30.885: not quite correct; you’ll be using 3/64 here
- 3:37.022: missing snare after this, sounds approximately 1/32 later
- 3:38.795: jumps need to be delayed a bit here, they’re not quite accurate with the 4/8/16 notations
- 3:40.022/etc: why did you opt out of following the snares here? The timings for the jump aren’t quite correct anyway with what you’ve done
- 3:52.431: very nice buildup, feels very properly intense
- 4:38.863: still quite audible sound pushing through here, though I understand the omission
- 4:47.999: this jump should be a 16th earlier
- in general: there are a LOT of jumps in this chart, some of which aren’t the most clearly utilized
- spend a little bit of time going through your chart and getting a sense of where all of the harder kicks represented as jumps are and make sure that’s all you’re hitting with jumps -- more specifically, just make sure you have a bit more clarity in your structure. I get that this song is extremely heavy and punchy throughout, but the layering can be a bit cleaner as a whole.
- clean up the misrhythms.

@aj: i did NOT catch those misrhythms at all when i was going through my chart, now that you mention it i see them pretty clearly lol

it's extremely tiring having to listen to a song like this on lower rates multiple times so thank you for the time you spent going through that on a low rate (on top of the 60+ other files you're having to look through), cheers

It took me a few times to run through to figure out what all I wanted to say.

That last mini-set of 5 was exhausting because there were multiple files like this where there were a lot of things I wanted to say but I didn't want to also sound like a broken record in the process — so I combed through the files multiple times on lower rates repeatedly to try my hardest to get a feel for what was going on. For some reason, I was also really low on energy yesterday and ended up going to sleep earlier than I have on a Friday in quite some time.

Still handled the responsibility though.

Judge: TC_Halogen

Ani Mevushal (VisD) [8/10]
Artist: Infected Mushroom & Bliss -- Perms: OK (Label)

- offset changed to -7.408
- aha this opening, I love it
- 25.304: move to R (the effect produces three repeated notes here)
- 34.718/etc: listen a bit more carefully to what you’re following here; not all of your minijacks are correct
- 1:13.837: mmmm, not the cleanest of song cuts here; you may want to consider doing a crossfade cut to transition into this a bit more cleanly since you’re cutting from two very different spots (reach out if this is difficult and I might be able to help you make this work); your sync gets a tiny bit off after this cut as well (
- 1:39.906: I quite like this buildup, good choices on the layering shift and patterning
- 1:51.492: I don’t think all of these flams are correct - the snare is punchy and kinda gives it a feel like it’s disjointed on a lower rate, but it’s not as apparent when playing at 100%; the kicks on the 8ths are fine with the flams, though.
- 1:53.147: in general, pitch relevance in this last section can be improved a bit - for example, 1:53.871 should be a D since you started the sequence of repetition with a [R]-[D]-[L] and the difference in the first and second repetitions implies a [R]-[u]D-[L] - there are others as well
- this is a good file; it’s got the right energy and is pretty all-encompassing in what it tries to test the players

I Like It (gold stinger) [8/10]
Artist: Foxy Shazam -- Perms: OK

- 4.309: first instance has two well defined notes as [(LR)] and [(DU)], but these notes are different, so change these two jumps around
- 8.901: good structure change there
- 14.641: this 16th has a vocal note (you appear to follow them with the 12ths earlier)
- 23.126: this [(LU)] feels a bit out of place given that you intermittently follow vocals and it happens to share the same jump as something that just prominently existed (and doesn’t anymore)
- 29.707: should be a flam (a 32nd)
- 30.013 to 39.809: simple, but very effective section
- 41.646/etc: this is also a good repeating concept
- 44.707: triple feels a bit weird here
- 1:05.064: not quite correct; the grace notes in the piano come after the 24th and it’s quite tight - you might want to just grab the 24th and that’s it
- 1:16.544: there are other instances of vocal vibrato that you opt out of accenting; why is here special compared to others? (27.564?
- 1:50.524: if you’re focused on the giving the guitar this kind of attention, you should probably add some sort of attention at 1:48.381 as well
- 2:27.258: given that your structure gives a lot of attention to the big vocal repetition, I’d remove this triple and make the jump a bit more obstructive (something that is split)
- very nice combined layering structures at the end of the song there
- this is actually pretty good overall! There are some good structural motifs maintained throughout the file that I really am fond of (the jump/triple vocal accenting is really memorable, for example)
- your jump usage could use a bit more clarity, especially when the brass gets a bit more prominent at sections like 49.605 to 59.401 and sections like this

life flashes before weeb eyes (Psychotik) [5.5/10]
Artist: BilliumMoto -- Perms: OK

- 6.288: should be a triple according to earlier structure
- 6.816: also should be a triple according to earlier structure, but given there’s other stuff around it, a jump would suffice as well
- 6.948/7.213: sounds are pretty insignificant within your structure to merit a jump
- 11.508: if we’re going to catch this percussion here with an arrow, then you’re missing notes at 9.922, 12.036, 14.151, etc.
- 20.230: why is this vocal sample uncolored compared to the others?
- 21.321: ghost note; the synth doesn’t bend or have a grace note or anything, it’s actually simply cut off
- 22.014: should be 32nds
- 25.979: no need to color this note (the minijack is correct, though)
- 29.614: this makes a slightly abrasive mini-trill, might be better to break that pattern up a bit more
- 30.142: this synth plays four repeated notes, so two sets of mini-jacks would be appropriate here by making this a U
- 30.473: should be 32nds (you accent this at 22.014)
- 31.332: missing note
- 33.578/33.710: some more missing synth notes
- 34.834: second flam is correct, but this one is not appropriate because there’s nothing meriting that kind of disjoint
- 35.142: not quite sure about these 24ths here; also, the synth does have some 24th note speed modulation at 35.230 if you listen carefully
- 36.750: a bit early on the 32nds here, they start on the 8th at 36.816
- 37.161: missing note for vocal sample
- 38.204: same as 21.321; fix for all instances
- 40.715: a bit early here on the 32nds; should be on the 8ths and there’s no notes between the 4th and where the 32nds actually start
- 41.838/(etc): early on the 32nds again - check your rhythms
- 50.362: some little percussive clicks if you want to follow them here
- 51.486: triple? happened just a moment ago
- 55.318/55.583/(etc): why are these omitted?
- 1:07.741: not quite proper placement of the minijacks
- 1:10.517: minijacks don’t connect here
- 1:13.424/(etc): this is a five note blip, though it’s understandable if you want to reduce it to four due to being a less intense/slower section
- 1:21.221: seems like this should be a jump (1:20.975 has a jump with nothing but the kick as well)
- 1:24.790: this is a pretty brutal sequence compared to the rest of the chart
- 1:35.739: 24th minijack?
- 1:37.807: missing note
- 1:38.204: missing hi-hat
- 1:41.706: should be 48ths
- 1:43.139: grace notes for the piano are 32nds here, but 48ths are an acceptable accent due to the 48ths being correct at 1:43.292 (good continuity, etc)
- 1:46.728: mini-jack isn’t necessary here
- 1:47.587: for proper PR, the [D] and [R] should be switched
- 1:49.636: move off of [u] for more accuracy
- 1:50.296: missing note; at this point, I’m simply going to mention that you need to catch all the missing notes and stuff
- 1:56.772: should be 32nds
- 1:59.151: what are these 64ths for?
- 2:06.882: are these supposed to be for kicks? if not and these jumps are properly placed, then you’re missing one at 2:07.147 as well (though I feel these jumps are ill-advised because they’re for a pretty quiet sound)
- 2:23.799: ^, etc
- at a glance, this song has a structure that is workable -- however, there are a lot of minor issues scattered about that need to be addressed, even beyond the notes I’ve applied here

MIDI Beach (suicidaln00b) [7.5/10]
Artist: Dr. Toboggan -- Perms: OK

- 16.645: missing note for guitar
- 23.767: move this to [u] so that your 24ths get a bit more attention
- 26.070: synth portamento goes all the way to where you have the [(DU)] jump, so I think adding the missing 24th works here
- 59.055: ghost note (previous 16ths/48ths are fine)
- 1:00.242: in converse to 59.055, this works better because there’s a kick to support the space being filled
- 1:00.782: ghost note (same as 59.055)
- 1:03.695: there’s actually two blips here that are clearly separated, so two 32nd note mini-trills are more effective for this sequence
- 1:12.544: could use a bit better pitch relevance here
- 1:22.904: very tasteful color gimmick! nice job paying attention to the synth’s filter level here, this was wise; move the patterns around a bit more to get better pitch relevance on the 64th notes if possible
- a little draggy; certainly acceptable though

Whitey’s Ice (Deamerai) [6/10]
Artist: Duran Duran Duran -- Perms: OK

- this song is legitimately fucking awful to listen to and I say this as someone who has actively produced breakcore; the high-freq shit in this is absolutely earsplitting and feels like it lasts forever. no one should be exposed to this kind of shit.
- for the first time in nearly 10 years as a judge, I actually initially rejected this purely on song choice without looking at the chart. I can deal with a lot, but this falls outside of my limits. I however went back to actually give it notes. I’m not judging this shit again.
- in general, a lot of the notes placed in this chart are slightly off compared to the sounds that you’re trying to follow - they can pass at normal rate but once you slow things down a bit, they’re noticeably off
- in general, there are inconsistencies in representation of samples:
--- 45.886 versus 46.185
--- 57.386 has no note, but 57.306 is the same thing
--- 57.983 is a lower variant of 57.863 but has no note
--- 1:20.796: four note flam for whatever the fuck this is, versus 1:21.353 which is only represented as two notes
--- 1:31.088: should be a jump like 1:30.889
--- 1:31.327/(etc): multiple cymbal crashes, which are triples throughout

Some notes:
- 5.459: a bit late on these two accents
- 5.711ish: another note for the distorted whatever the fuck this is
- 12.542: jump here but not at 12.104? Both have two sounds (at least) in that spot
- 16.388: a little late
- 18.378ish: same as 5.711ish
- 20.818: these are all snares, just at varying pitches
- 24.055: triple for cymbal (you do this at 8.682, 13.179, etc)
- 25.169: rhythm isn’t quite right
- 26.442: noticeably late
- 28.617: missing note for kick
- 37.113: missing note for loud ass buzz
- 42.226: not really a need for this minijack
- 43.280: missing note for sound
- 55.860: wrong starting point (this is the second note of the series)
- 56.311: missing the snare here
- 1:00.290: more missing percussion
- 1:23.236: should be on D
- a lot of the same in terms of missing sounds that are pretty audible
- structure is inconsistent overall and the variance in difficulty is a bit wild with some of the transitions into a few 48th note bursts
- rhythms appear to be painstaking placed at times, but it’s not entirely correct in most cases
- i have a literal fucking headache after working on judging this chart
- yes, i’m legitimately angry

Replies:
- 34.718/etc: is/are there a specific spot(s) you can name when the minijacks are off? I really really slowed this down and listened to this part a lot to make sure they are right. Some of them are pretty debatable and have very minor pitch shifts, but in general the flow feels right to me.

- 1:13.837: I know . The funny thing is, this is actually already a crossfade (you can hear the little scales going softer even while the vocals start kicking in louder) and the best I could do after a bunch of attempts in Audacity.

- 1:51.492: True, the 4th flams are not as noticeable. However, I can definitely still hear them and this type of delayed percussion hit seems to me definitely a motif that IF&B had with the percussion in this song (see the bit from 32.230)

Will get fixes in soon!

Some stuff on Jump Up, Super Star!

Quote:
- 23.160: purple is technically the right color, but why are you pushing it back so much here?
The band decided to follow vocal lead following back into the verse, which caused it to be a yellow note in nature. To maintain sectional structure, rather than give focus back to vocals, colorized it back to purple. Later in the song, TLT's remixing takes lead instead of the traditional band, and correctly lands the 12th.

Quote:
- for the chorus(es): if the aim is to accent the vocals, I think the jumps should be removed aside from the initial crash that starts the section, because your deliverance in avoiding consecutive 16ths places precedence on the jumps and avoids certain key notes in the vocal line (46.983, 49.336, etc)
There's a level of reduction happening here because vocals are in close proximity to a lot of different instruments starting on the 4th. (drum track, vocal lead start, vocal backing end, etc.) Also, verse already puts a high level of focus on vocals to singles already, so I wanted to distinguish chorus from verse a bit more without bumping difficulty.

Quote:
- 1:12.424: consecutive 16ths are a thing?
un-even 3/4 & 4/4 swaps are a thing. They only use 3/4 progression when they try to introduce the crash early for jazz effect, or doing a transition into another major section (includes white note colorization into chorus). Outside of that, they use 4/4 progression.

Sent in some fixes, plus there was a missed note in the 2nd half, which has been fixed as well.

Added notes for the first two, but omitted the third considering the sound isn't very audible during normal playback.

Fair enough, fixed.

- 1:10.168: another missing guitar note (there’s missing notes at 1:10.834, 1:11.057, and 1:11.390 but them being missing kinda creates a nice syncopation, so you don’t really need these if you don’t want them)
Keeping this one the same for the exact reason you mention.

Quote:
- 1:14.723/1:16.501: these two jumps feel a bit out of place; I know they follow certain instrumental accents but clashing with the snare feels a bit off in this spot to me
Removed the jumps, I'm actually not sure why I layered them like that.

Quote:
- 1:51.723: ghost note
I have that note since it fits the guitar sweep, but I took the next note down to a single just to keep that 666 notecount after the previous fixes

ngl I'm really excited for Eine Kleine Funkmusikk, I love that kind of jazzy organ-heavy funk jam, the song is incredibly steppable and tons of room for fun interpretation

I'm really happy that M0nkeyz was the one to do it, because it's showing that he's growing increasingly comfortable with things outside of his perceived comfort zone. He did a respectable job.

I do hope people enjoy it; I think it was a solid interpretation.

Thanks, the song was actually really fun to step, so many little things you can do to make instruments/melodies stand out. It also has a nice pace so it never felt sluggish to me.

Also sent fixes for Smash and Burn

Chronomia (DarkZtar) [6.5/10]
Song Artist: Lime -- Perms: OK

- 12.743 to 21.201: jump patterning can better follow the piano pitch with some minor tweaks
- 20.760: I can understand having a 12th note minijack when using a triple to accent for the brass, but there’s a bit of space to clean up the bursts a bit
- 24.373: ^
- 25.232/26.241/(etc): missing note for the same thing you’re following in the following 16ths - there are a bunch of these
- 41.289 to 46.575: jump usage in this section starts as exclusively percussion but seems to change to something that’s not the most discernible, take a look at it again and make sure you’re accenting what it is that you want to
- 42.478: starts as 24ths, until 42.611
- 43.536: not hearing any 24ths here
- 55.562: remove triple
- 1:00.452: pretty abrasive pattern for something that’s barely audible
- 1:06.663: should be 48ths
- 1:11.950 to 1:37.924: verify your jump usage and make sure you’re accounting for the things you intend on accenting, as there are noticeable inconsistencies (accented w/o melody: 1:12.214, 1:16.443, 1:20.672 - missing at various places; unnecessary jumps: 1:14.461, 1:18.690; etc) -- overall, I feel like the jump usage is too heavy and doesn’t have enough focus
- 1:18.293: missing jump
- 1:30.056: missing jump for kick here; this appears to be the only instance that is missing where you have 24ths for the hi-hat blips so it doesn’t really violate a rule more than once that you’ve established
- 1:32.434: missing jump for guitar
- 1:44.659: not quite right, but it works since there’s not much else going on
- 1:52.522: you accommodate for the swing in the percussion earlier on, you should do it here as well
- 2:12.743: a bunch of missing percussion here
- structure is alright, but needs a bit more clarity at times
- a few minor rhythm checks can also be done

Exam Cram (ilikexd) [8/10]
Song Artist: Rushjet1 -- Perms: OK

- 57.892: not a big fan of changing the layering in the middle of a musical phrase like this; that being said - even with that change, this first jump is unnecessary
- 1:04.270 to 1:17.026: I understand the jump placement, but I imagine most aren’t going to think that the change in key merits those abrupt jump accents
- 24th patterning gets a little nasty in the first half of the final stream, but I do appreciate that you’re able to maintain that arpeggiated style patterning
- chart could take a bit more effort into making deviated pitch relevance to not repeat the same exac patterning structure as the opening
- good chart overall

kiss the sexy robot ultimate championship 201X!!! (VisD) [8.5/10]
Song Artist: nitro -- Perms: OK (CC-BY-NC)

- the only qualm that I really have with this file in general is the occasional lack of agreement in jump representation between kicks and snares, where some instances the same jump is used for both percussive elements (11.475/12.075, 15.875/16.274)
- jump pitch relevance for melody can be improved at times as well (18.875/19.275, 24.275/24.675, 28.175/28.475, etc.)
- 55.875: nice balance!
- 1:35.974: ghost note
- 1:52.174: missing note here
- 1:52.724: not quite hearing this 32nd at any speed
- 2:01.774: missing note for bass
- this song and file slap, good shit.

looming shadow of a tree long gone (EzExZeRo7497) [9.5/10]
Song Artist: goreshit -- Perms: OK

- very literally nothing to point out; layering is crystal clear, patterns are very well structured, all percussion is accommodated for
- chart is exceptionally regimented, misses nothing and does a good job providing a solid challenge without any surprises - excellent work!

Railing (ositzxz369) [8/10]
Song Artist: Nvoise -- Perms: OK

- 20.350: because this snare buzz actually gets cut off, it would look better chart-wise if this last 32nd was removed (making it only a three note burst)
- 25.850: ghost note
- 34.696/35.157/(etc): pretty noticeable missing notes for the drum breaks as well
- 27.157 to 46.850: there are a lot of noticeable missing notes for various parts of the drum breaks, mostly hi-hats (you accent 27.696, 28.927, 29.081 but miss 29.234/29,542, etc) and occasional cymbal rides that come an 8th after a cymbal crash (34.696, 35.157, etc)
- 35.465: this is actually a pretty nasty burst given the sound(s) you’re following; additionally, 35.504 is a ghost note
- 48.388: another instance of a short buzz that has two very distinct separations, so having it as all one blip is a bit off visually
- 49.157: should be 24ths instead
- 52.350: remove 32nd
- 1:27.119: same deal with the short buzzes
- 1:28.234: trill is not quite right here, there’s some finer sequencing here that is a bit more complex than simple alternating
- very interesting ending
- solid chart; good enough as is but could use some tiny bits of cleanup here or there
- imo, your best file to date

Just a heads up that I'll still look through looming shadow again to see if there are minor things that I'd like to improve (mostly the type of chord for very specific chords and maybe the white note accents before the bass kicks). I'll keep you updated if there are changes. Thanks for the strong accept though

2nd Draft of Railing is submitted. I addressed the other notes except this one. I slowed it down to 10%, and the sound syncs exactly to the four 32nds.
