Default Protein burns 25% of total calories during digestion, whole foods 46.8% more

original post: http://www.precisionnutrition.com/di...rocessed-foods

- 20-30% of total calories in protein eaten go to digesting it
- 5-10% of total calories in carbohydrates eaten go to digestion
- 0-3% of total calories in fats go to digestion
- whole food took 46.8% more energy to digest than processed food on average
- total energy needed to digest and absorb a whole food sandwich was 137 calories
- total energy needed for the processed food sandwich was 74 calories

This means that whole foods burns substantially more calories than processed foods to digest the food itself. Further, eating whole foods is especially important when it's protein because this burns triple to to even hextuple the amount of calories required to digest other macronutrients.

Default A thesis concerning Arch0wl's OP

I know I can eat 2 whole pizzas and a litre of cola and then release a small waste 2-4 days later and my stomach is only the size of a nerf football. What are your thoughts or feelings about this?
To further exemplify what I'm trying to say, consider this. There have been several instances at the pizza buffet where I would eat like 2 whole pizzas, 2 large salads, and a half litre of cola + a plate filled with desserts and then leave the buffet feeling like a champion and simply have a small bowel movement like later the next day, and that's it.

Somehow this
(an extravagent amount of junk food)

becomes this (a small poo)

What really happens inside the human bowels to cause this is what we're trying to figure out gentlemen.
What really happens inside the human bowels to cause this is what we're trying to figure out gentlemen.

I think it'd depend on your personal stomach strength

I've literally never had food poisoning in my life. This tells me that I have a stomach that is basically Lord Beerus in Dragon Ball Super and I should underestimate how many calories are being used for digestion.
