Last I heard, PrawnSkunk was taking a break on the dev side of things until his schoolwork is less pressure and he was the one heading this project up. Maybe send him a PM?

Adding a feature for changing your username would be great,
because the name i currently use is desperate for some change.

I want to make sure automating username changes is possible and safe before making plans for a username reserve policy or previous name display. If you guys have any other questions, let me know and I will respond to them when I can.
Since my last response in this thread, the tests on _.Spitfire._/Nullifidian have been more or less a success. We now know we can actually offer safe username changes. The crux of the issue being developer time. The process takes a ton of manual entry per user, and I have been directing all my free time into other site projects. I know this year has been the busiest yet for me, and it seems everyone on staff is feeling in the same boat. I'll try to provide more info soon. Don't hesitate to bug me for updates.

Assuming most of this is SQL, could you not write a query or stored procedure to do all of it? Or is there some other aspect of the name change I'm missing?

I too would like to change my username. Seems that pretty well everyone here regrets the name they chose when they were 12.

I'm good.

I might, in retrospect have capitalized the d, but whatever.

I might have the stupidest "12-year-old" username on this site but it's grown on me for some reason.

Most of the table contain usernames are either from the pre-vBulletin days, or internal tools that are in use today.
Let's just say it's complicated.

Hey Prawn, thanks for the reply. Don't sweat it. I'm one of the people against username changes, honestly, because I think it messes with the archiving process of the forum (e.g. username changes for the poster, but doesn't change the nicknames, quotes, etc. in the actual posts). I just wanted confirmation on whether or not this is planned to happen, because I think it's a more complicated issue than just coding. There should be a serious discussion about whether or not this is a feature we really want in the first place.

Make a new thread with a poll. I think most people are in favor of having the option to change their antiquated usernames, but at least we could get a discussion going.

I wasn't that great at making usernames in 2003 lmao, I'd definitely be down for a username change. Very few people even know me by this name anymore.

Hmm.. this is a good point, too

To explain a little more though, it's just that my interests have changed a lot since back in the day (and, by association, my choice of username) and I kinda wanna align it more with how I've been known everywhere else online for a while now. On the same token, I wouldn't mind having something showing what my username used to be, so people who know me by the old one wouldn't get too confused.
