How sick of politics are you?
DISCLAIMER: this isnt a thread where you're supposed to discuss politics, or the specifics(names/policies/etc). think of this as a meta discussion on politics.
now, I know everybody isnt American or following the god awful American election, and I dont watch TV or have facebook so i'm not sure what all is being shoved in your face, but I think this topic might be relevant to a lot of people since it's an election year and lots of people only seem to be aware or interested or liable to comment on politics during this time.(say that whole sentence in one breath) so, how sick are you of politics? if so, why are you sick of politics? if you arent sick, please explain why you arent sick of politics. refrain from using any party names, candidate names, or specific political issues when discussing politics in this thread. Can my username be added as a poll option? I feel it's an appropriate measure of sickness.

Re: How sick of politics are you?
One thing that does bother me with respect to politics is that it seems that so much time, focus, energy, and money goes into campaigning as opposed to actually getting anything done. As if the number one goal for every single politician is to get re-elected.
Nonetheless, overall, I'm not sick of politics because I do believe that it is a very important thing to stay informed about. I do wish more people (myself included) spent a bit more time being informed about politics at a state and local level so we can also bring in the right people into our House and Senate and various offices/positions within the state/local government. |

any congress member that has been in office for five years gets a lifetime pension. i'm sure you know that's one less than the number of years in a senator's term. also, a lot of the stuff that gets done, gets done outside of the public eye. I know a local politician in my city won the house of representatives race. Within the first week of his being in Washington, Israeli diplomats flew him out to Israel. I dont have any opinions for this thread on Israel and I dont want to turn this thread into a debate, that is simply what my local newspaper reported. keep in mind, this was his first time being elected to the house, he was just a rich landowner who decided to run for the house.... the point is, there is lots of money involved in politics and I personally do not trust anybody who is in a position where deep pockets might have an interest in buying their vote. if you want to read about congressional pension: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congressional_pension Last edited by -JiZ53-; 05-25-2016 at 03:37 AM.. |

Re: How sick of politics are you?
My experience of politics:
Somebody: "This [guy X]'s opinion is garbage 'cause they're just a member of [abitrary ideology label X]" Me: "What's [arbitrary ideology label X]?" Somebody: "Oh you know, like that [inflammatory adjective] [person Y] who's basically an [outdated reference to a long dead political group]. They do [something only ever performed by fringe members of arbitrary ideology label X]." Me: "I dunno, I think [guy X] kinda has a point" Somebody: "Oh, you must be an [arbitrary ideology label X] then" Me: "Good talk"

[x] not sick, enthused
I read and debate about politics almost every day. Mostly far-left stuff (socialism, anarchism, communism). If you're sick of politics you have to realize there's much more to it than the election news cycle and the status quo. |

Re: How sick of politics are you?
I'm sick of it cause my mother keeps forcing everyone to listen to her political opinions over and over, usually sparked by very innocuous things like episodes of blackish or bank commercials. It's gotten to the point now that, to counteract this, I bring up health issues during meals. The moment she tries to stop me because it's "indecent in polite conversations", I remind her of her own advice also applies to politics too.

Re: How sick of politics are you?
My family watches mostly CNN for news intake because we like the personalities their hosts have...well, that's my reason at least. Anyway, after a few hours of the news cycle composed mostly of the current general election with a few other stories sprinkled in, I just can't really focus on what is being reported and get bored or fall asleep. Hearing the same stories about two people with a third thrown into the mix every once in awhile is miserable and I will be excited when this cycle is over.
Extremely sick. -o24

Sick of it but not nearly to the point to become an obnoxious anarchist.

Re: How sick of politics are you?
Anyway I actually love politics. It's a topic you're going to get an opinion from everyone on. What I'm sick about is how people only call a candidate terrible based off of the media. Everybody should be able to get their own opinion on candidates without the bias of both conservative and liberal news outlets.

Re: How sick of politics are you?
kinda sick
mostly because politics overrules the regular program on tv, making us miss episodes of a series wtf I watch tv? otherwise, I really don't care what some entitled goofballs claim to be the correct way forward for this country as long as they stay away from my burritos, I'm fine

Re: How sick of politics are you?
I'm sick of election politics, but as far as the issues go, those are still interesting when people aren't blatantly lying to each other and flipflopping opinions on a dime to get more votes.
