pads/home set ups/controllers thread
So Hey guys! I recently acquired a swanky new omega gx pad from Precision. After giving it a bit of a test and being satisfied with the results, I decided to make a bar setup for it!
Sorry about the potato quality, just got a quick grab before going back to playing What have you guys got? Stepmania battlestation thread? Also pad scores thread?

How did you make your bar platform? Is it portable at all or pretty much fixed?
I've got an Omega ITGX or whatever it's called, but no bar to go with it. Last edited by Reincarnate; 03-6-2015 at 09:14 PM.. |

Re: pads/home set ups/controllers thread
It is totally portable, as long as you don't mind moving things around flat. The bar is all steel pipe that I found at home depot, same with the plywood and flanges on the bottom. Nothing is glued or welded or anything so the bar just untwists and that's it. The pad is just velcroed onto the plywood base so you can take it off to clean or whatever. Cost about 70 bucks.
1 piece of plywood cut to the size of the pad, plus 6 inches for the bar. A piece of plywood on top for reinforcement. Glue the wood, screw the flanges, twist the pipe and you're done haha. Takes an afternoon, playable the next day (just to make sure the glue sets)

Re: pads/home set ups/controllers thread
This will sound weird but do you have an exact list of the specific materials you bought for this? e.g. what kind of plywood? Size? Type? Likewise for the pipe(s)? etc. Velcro materials?
I might need to make this a weekend project. I have little exposure to DIY so it'd be nice to get a sense for this. Last edited by Reincarnate; 03-7-2015 at 10:47 AM.. |

Re: pads/home set ups/controllers thread
Yeah totally man! I made the bar 3/4" thick because my wife has smaller hands and it's a bit lighter
I used a 3/4" thick piece of plywood, cut to 36"x42". I had a second piece cut to 36"x6". I bought two steel 3/4" floor flanges that look like this 1-1/2" brass wood screws x 8 1-1/4" brass wood screws x 6 A box of 10 sets self adhesive Velcro strips Two galvanized steel pipes 3/4"x36" One galvanized steel pipe 3/4"x18" (btw the pipes were the presized and threaded. I chose this over trying to get things cut to arcade specs) Two 90 degree 3/4" steel pipe elbows Gorilla wood glue Clamps A pencil A drill When you have everything, glue the small piece of plywood on where you want the back of the pad to be. Make sure the corners are flush, then clamp that baby down. I used a lot of glue so it kinda leaked out between them haha, something to watch out for. While it's clamped down, measure everything up, then start putting together! Because the pipes were presized and threaded, it's just a matter of tightening things into place. You might want to put the bar together first to mark where you want the flanges... I didn't do that, and the horizontal part of the bar is a bit loose because it's not fully tight into either elbow haha Use the 1-1/2" screws into the flanges, because they won't (shouldn't) go all the way through both boards, then use the 1-1/4" screws as additional methods of keeping the boards together (one in each corner, two in the middle) The Velcro strips I got were self adhesive, and are super handy to help keep the board in position and to keep from sliding around on the plywood. Here is a pic of the back of the base to compare Good luck! Post a pic when you finish. And let me know if you've got questions! I'll answer as soon as I get up lol it's 2am
