minors are usually around 20 credit hours.

if you take one class per semester you'll probably finish your junior year or so, but you can rush and get it done early, and if you have AP credit that might count towards the requirement.

@fojar the college site says the course has a total of 31 units. is that the same as credit hours? very new to the idea of credits/units since my highschool decided it was a good idea to not include choosing classes in their system and had every student take the same classes no matter what...

it won't be difficult, if you choose the classes as your electives you'll be set before you know it. =]

A minor often constitutes a semester's worth of credits. Depending on the institution and the minor, it can be spread over a longer period or followed in a concentrated semester. As a personal note: I took a minor in English and American literature and ended up graduating in American literature before resuming my Sociology studies, so yay @ language minors.

At my university, the language minors are 18 credits. Each course at my school is 3 credits, which isn't the same as all of course.
I'm doing Chinese so I can give that as an example.
- Elementary Chinese I (3 creds)
- Elementary Chinese II (3)
- Intermediate Chinese I (3)
- Intermediate Chinese II (3)
- Two courses related to China or Chinese culture, and there are 6 to choose from (6 credits)
Each course lasts a semester, and the four language ones are pre-requisites for the next, so the quickest you could do it would be two years (unless you took some over the Summer).

I assume the other languages are probably the same, if not very similar (for my school at least). Every college or university would differ in what they require you to do other than learn the language, I would imagine. Definitely look into it if you want an extra POW on your resume. Planning ahead is good. Also, if you're doing anything related to business, then Chinese is the way to go (both for life success and for making your resume stick out). Mandarin Chinese is the most widely spoken first language in the world, the fastest growing second language, and it's also become the language of business in the past years, and will continue to grow in years to come. Good luck to you in your decision-making process.

I guess because a lot of technology companies are Japan-based? Anyway, Japanese is one of the harder second languages you can learn as a native English speaker.

I am looking forward to taking Mandarin Chinese aswell. Especially living in Vancouver, where it is predominately Asian.
