Yo Choof, Juggernaut Alpha and Omega are double concept albums, so they go chronologically Alpha->Omega. If you're not gonna listen to them consecutively that's fine, but I would listen to them in order at least, just a heads up.
Also mad hyped for this

Re: choof's shitty dumb review thread for a year or w/e
got it
some more interesting tidbits any time there are multiple albums by the same artist, they were all recommended by the same person, except for the following: BODTF (gamma and rayword tag team) Brokencyde (tag team championship cage match) Metallica (double dad dash featuring Lou Reed) NMH (only the memeist of memeing memes) two Granddaddy albums were also recommended by two different people but Granddaddy is an artist I'm actually looking forward to there are more pantera albums than compilation albums |

JENNYDEATHTHONY WHENTANO
updated the spreadsheet with some new fields, as a bit of a joke I'll be doing a separate "stepability" rating and there's a column that uses a formula to determine if I'm excited to listen to the album based on a number of criteria Last edited by choof; 12-31-2014 at 12:40 PM.. |

Re: choof's shitty dumb review thread for a year or w/e
Colour Haze - Colour Haze (2004)
First album of the new year! Never heard of these guys before, a psychedelic/stoner rock band from Germany. Not a bad start, I'd say, even though I'm not well versed in psychedelic. Nearly an hour in length, the album starts off with "Mountain," a curious song with a bit of a meandering beat and lazy vocals. Lazy is not a bad thing, though, especially on an album that's tagged as "stoner rock." As the song slowly progresses into the instrumental section, the vocals seem to trade tune for emotion. Good instrumental, with scratchy vocals re-entering for the song's feedback filled finished, seguing into the next track, "Tao Nr. 43." The first 2 minutes of "Tao" tumble about, finally gaining it's footing only to drop out for a small percussion-less bridge. As the drums come back in, distortion fills the guitar, accompanied by some short vocals, still showing off the same scratchiness from the tail-end of "Mountain." The percussion drops out a second time as the song slowly comes to a halt, feedback still present. "Did êl it," the shortest song on the album, starts with driving guitars and some "doots" from the vocalist. More distortion abruptly enters the foray during the choruses, muddying the song to the point where it's not really all that enjoyable anymore. Following up is "Love." Some of the best guitar work thus far, nearly brushing the border of self-indulgence until it switches up near the half way mark, distortion slowly making it's way onto the stage. And... then, with about a third of the song left, the spoken word comes in. Fortunately, it only lasts for about a minute, making it not that much of a detriment to the song as a whole. The song effectively picks up where it left off when the vocals came in, making for a strong finish, coated in more distortion, giving it a sludgy feel. "Solitude," a comparatively short acoustic track, not only ruins the vibe from "Love," but it also showcases the guitarist/vocalists relative laziness. This time, however, it's not a good lazy. Sandwiched in between the two longest songs on the album, it's an unwelcome change, and quite frankly, pretty boring as a result. The song is basically over before it began, but at last, we come to the monolithic "Peace, Brothers and Sisters." Clocking in at 22 minutes, "Peace, Brothers and Sisters" takes up a third of the album's entire length alone, but it doesn't feel that long at all. By the 10 minute mark, we've travelled through two pretty killer instrumental sections, and some of the best vocal work on the album. As a whole, the song shifts from notably psychedelic to stoner and back again. Vibrant guitar solos, peace and lsd-loving vocals, and three distinct sections make for a wonderful journey through what feels, and sounds, like the bands most honest effort on the album, and it absolutely pays off. Literally the only gripe I have with this is the fade out. Sending the album off is "Flowers," relatively devoid of distortion and filled with emotion; a strong, clean, and psychedlic vibe. More solid vocal work, and great instrumentation. However, I think this could have been somewhere else on the album, with "Peace, Brothers and Sisters" as the closing track. Overall, this was a pretty great start to this 365 albums project! Favorite Song - "Peace, Brothers and Sisters" Least Favorite Song - "Solitude" Tru Rating - 7.5/10 Step Rating - 3/10 |

Re: choof's shitty dumb review thread for a year or w/e
I'm really glad you could review this album as the first. Colour Haze is a safe bet and they've had a surprisingly consistent career. Personally I don't do track per track reviews as they're hard to keep up with in the long run, however, they feel more rounded. Your overall critique is strikingly similar to mine. I like that.
