After a very long hiatus from this game, I have finally returned, and Im pleased to be able to start my monthly tournaments again!

My name is Travis, and I will be your host!

For this tournament, I want to try something new. Im going to implement a rating system similar to the one used in official chess tournaments. I think that this will be an excellent way to measure and keep track of a players strength over time, as well as making division placements more accurate. I will elaborate more on this rating system below.

<> The tournament will be swiss system style.

<> The points will be based on raw scoring.

<> All scores will be submitted in the form of a screen shot, posted in this thread.

<> There will be 5 rounds, each lasting 6 days long.

<> For each round, there will be 3 subrounds lasting 2 days each.

<> For each round, players will be paired up with an opponent within their division.

<> In the case of an odd number of participants in a division, a "Bye" will be given to a different person each round and will count as a win (however there will be no rating adjustment for a bye).

<> For each subround, I will pick a song for each division to play, the objective is to get a better raw score on that song than your opponent. Whoever gets the best out of three wins that round.

<> At the end of each round, the players who win against their opponent will be given 1 point, the losers will recieve 0 points.

<> After all 5 rounds have concluded, the player(s) with the most points will win.

<> Credits will be awarded to the top 3 in each division, and possibly more depending on the amount of donated credits.

The rating system that I am implementing is a simplified version of the "ELO" rating system used in official chess tournaments. Players that join who have no rating yet will placed in the division closest to their skill level and given an initial rating that is midway between the divisions maximum and minimum rating (Guru's get 2100 initial, and novices get 900).

If, at the end of the tournament, a players rating has crossed the maximum/minimum rating for that division, then they will be bumped up/down to the next highest/lowest division for the next tournament. No division change based on rating increase/decrease will be made while the tournament is in progress.

The change in a players rating after a match is calculated with the following formula:

R' = R + 30(S - E)

Where R' is their new adjusted rating, S is their score (1 for winner, 0 for loser), and E is their "expected" score.

The expected score for players A (Ea) and B (Eb) is calculated by:

Ea = Qa/(Qa+Qb)
Eb = Qb/(Qa+Qb)

where

Qa = 10^(Ra/400)
Qb = 10^(Rb/400)

and Ra is player A's rating, and Rb is player B's rating.

A players rating will carry through each of my tournaments

DON'T CHEAT!

Cheating includes:

<> Photoshopping a fake score pic.

<> Having friends play for you on your account.

<> Using an alternate account to get into a lower division.

If you feel that you have been placed in the wrong division, please send me a PM rather than discussing it in this thread.

Opponent pairings after round 1 depend on the results of the previous round (for example, winners get paired with other winners of previous round). This means that I will be unable to give extensions beyond the end of the third subround to the participants. However, if you know ahead of time that you wont be able to play a certain round, then you may request a 1/2 point bye provided you ask for it before that round starts. If a players opponent requests a 1/2 point bye, than that player will get 1 point for winning that round (with no rating adjustment).
