While this is certainly the case, I feel it shouldn't be. I think we'd all be better off if people really grasped the scope of things. Wasting time and resources on war is pretty silly.

It seems pretty whimsical, to me. Humans already have more responsibility and freedom than any other entities we know of, but we squander it on trivial stuff.
